First, before anyone accuses me of baseless criticism, I do love the YU's music. It's got an upbeat, fantasy, though militaristic tone, but still has the recognizeable fun-but-serious flare of Riviera.
Now, in theory, it has 120 tracks, but only 57 unique. The rest are either different versions, or, in the case of the "Battle Medly," a ten minute collage of other songs.
The first 57, are the GBA versions of each songs, that's right, they sound just as poor-quality as the stuff your tiny speaker will try to spit out when you play the game. Still good. Then there's the ten minute "Battle Medly," which happens to be a transitioned compilation of all the battle themes. Not exactly bad, but fairly pointless.
Then, the second disc. First 57, are the non-GBA versions of the game's music. No, they are not arranged, they're basically the music before being converted for use by the GBA, or as Sting likes to call them, the Image BGM. You'll most likely listen to this disc more than the first, unless you love the popply cracking of the GBA-readied music. After that, there are five, yes, only five Arranged songs. Arranged versions of Yggdra and Milanor's themes, "We'll Never Fight Alone," the kick-ass music from the trailer and the music you hear if you leave the game at the main menu for too long, "Siege Warfare," and "Sainly Sword Gran Centurio" (yes, Yggdra's sword has its own song). All five are fantastic sounding, and what I've listened to the most so far.
Comparing the Original and Image versions to the Arranged, I have to wonder, why didn't Sting add a third disc in, with arranged versions of the ALL the songs? Regardless if your opinion mimics mine, wouldn't that have made this collection truly Perfect as it claims to be?
Although, it has a pretty awesome picture of Yggdra in the insert, and a nice picture of Paltina castle as well. Picture of the former in the LTE. I'll post them on LCN as soon as I get a scanner.
