Also, using my amazing powers of deduction, that girl is possibly called "Fate".

Not particularly familiar with Nanoha, unfortunately. :/ Maybe I should check it out sometime. :<

Still, your custom sprites are kawaii, and I wait for more of them/more of your adorable, hilarious doodles. *nod*

Here is a doodle of Carnival from Scar Night. She is so awesome. And wow, I actually like how this turned out. Wonder of wonders. Except for the fact that her shirt's a little hard to read... It says Lacrymosa, as in the Evanescence song.

It's a little difficult to portray a character who's canonically covered in like a million scars.

...

Um, so how do I get highlights to show up without going over the lineart? Setting layers to multiply won't work... *sigh*

Place the lineart on a different layer and make it the top layer, then create another layer for your coloring. Using just one color layer is enough unless you have doubts about the initial colors you chose, but regardless, after getting the base colors in, use that one feature that allows you to color over ONLY the spaces in which the base colors occupy, then you can do your highlighting/shadows/whatever there.

So, instead of making your highlights/shadows/whatever another layer, you can do it on the same layer with the base colors. Or if base colors have nothing to do with what you wanted, then just put the lineart on a transparent layer and apply the highlights on another layer and place that layer below the lineart layer.

This is all assuming you use Photoshop CS.

IN OTHER WORDS

Once upon a time there was a bold man with many bold words.
However, his boldness soon became his own demise.
Then in the afterlife, he did the MC Slide.
I wonder what I was on when this all happened...

I recommend it. It's a great anime, but be prepared for tons of fanservice scattered here and there...but the story still very enjoyable.

Piiiirates~ 8D. Nice sketch, are they original characters?

http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b140/sil...amei_sketch.jpg

My scanner is pretty crappy. So all the colors got washed out. I changed the lines a light blue so you can't see the funky smudges :\. Good god, that ridiculously fluffy tail looks like it could sprout arms, eyes, and big sharp teeth and eat small children. I had fun. Currently inking this picture in OpenCanvas.

If you can originally see the smudges on the unedited scan, then it's a pretty good scanner, not a crappy scanner.

Nice job. Took me a while for my eyes to get accustomed to the blueness, though.

Shhhh >_>. I can believe it's crappy if I want to. It makes me feel better about the fact that it takes two and a half hours to scan something at 300DPI. And if I'm lucky, it'll actually finish scanning and not die at 50% or 99%.

Looks awesome so far, Buddhu C:. I love the way you draw faces D:. I fail at non-fluffy things.

Any hints you could spare to a newbie like me in tracing/coloring?

Do you have a tablet? Or do you mean by hand?

As far as coloring by hand goes, the only advice I would give is the same as coloring by computer. Try to shade with different colors, not just a darker version of the same color. It makes a picture more interesting.

But I'm actually terrible at shading, so, I'm probably not the best advice. >__>
