I decided I need one of these. I found a podcast I want to listen to on the road. Yeah, its 2008 and I'm finally getting a MP3 player. So...

What is the best MP3 player? I have heard a lot about iPod. It is true what they say? (i.e., that iPod is the best MP3 player). My family members have iPods and they say they like them.

What MP3 player do you use and which one would you recommend for podcast listening?

My music collection consists entirely of unprotected game music MP3s. I don't listen to music too often.

I'm willing to spend $200.

I use a Sandisk 2Gb Sansa Model c250, it's nice, small, and portable enough for me to wear around my neck, so I can exercise at the Gym with no problems. It also includes a MiniSD expansion slot, to increase your storage space if you need it.

I got it for $50, I'm happy with it.

I never leave my house ( or at least, pretty fucking rarely ), but if I had to get something, I'd get that 80 Gig Ipod.

Because that would hold all 60ish gigs of my music. <3

I use the Zune. I had a iPod, but I cracked the screen. I had the new iPod Nano, the one with the screen. Lucky for me my relatives don't talk, because my Aunt Barb got me the Zune>_>

If you get the Zune, get one of the newer models, the old ones are huge and ugly.

I got the newest one I think. My Aunt went to Best Buy and asked for the Zune. Knowing what I know, the guy sold her the most expensive one. I think I'm good. It fits in my back pocket.

I have a Creative Zen Vision:M but... it's not great. It freezes a lot, it starts lagging when you have too many files on it, and it's pretty clunky (as in big). BUT IT WAS THE CHEAPEST 30GIG ONE I COULD FIND AT BESTBUY. SO YEAH.

Its one redeeming feature is that the battery life isn't bad. It's pretty good, actually. Er. Well, I think it is. From what I know of my friend's iPod battery life, it is ):

I've seen nothing but shit from the iPod. The battery life is horrendous, my ex girlfriend's froze on at least ten different occasions, and its interface, as Rai said, is terrible. I would go for either a Sansa one (they have great interfaces, IMO - at least better than the iPod's) or the Zune (I have a 30 gig one and it is unwieldy, but you can order a decal or something and make it all cool looking).

It all depends on what you need.

Because the Zune is Microsoft's answer to the iPod, it's much cheaper.
There are two new Zunes, the small, nano-like 4-8G, and then the revamped 80G, which is a bit larger.

All iPods (minus the shuffle) play videos now, as do all Zunes.
Also, the interface for the iPod is a bit rough around the edges, but the new Cover Flow function is kinda cool. You can scroll through the album art and pick songs.

The only thing I think the Zune has the the iPod doesn't is the ability to share music between Zunes.
At least that's what I hear.

I decided to go with the Sansa e260.

I was thinking about something like COWON A3 Personal Video Player or Archos 605 WiFi. I think these devices need to get better b4 I buy one.

Archos: Won't play MKV files.
COWON: No touch screen control.
Yeah, I'm awfully picky.

The e260 got decent reviews and some recommendations here. I'm sure I'll be happy with it. I hear the video on this thing is terrible. You need to transcode everything to ultra-small yet still the same file size quicktime, and as we all know quicktime sucks.

Also, my NDS is a media player thanks to the almighty R4. Turns your DS into a media player! This is what I use now. It'd be better to have a dedicated device, as storage space is higher, interface is better, and battery life is longer.
