Supposedly only Sonic will be playable. By now I know better than to get any hopes up for a new Sonic game though. Also while this piece of concept art featuring a redesigned old badnik admittedly actually caught my interest and ended my indifference towards the game (curse you, Sonic Cycle) I'm still sceptical, also considering how there being a separate drawing of the pincher from behind means the game will just be 2.5D in the end.

Also in before boost button.

Unleashed had "only Sonic", and that was pretty bad. I didn't enjoy Black Knight very much either.

Expecting failure due to horrible gameplay.

I thought the only terrible part about Unleashed's gameplay was the night stages . I played a demo of a day stage and it didn't seem all that bad :/

Rush and Rush Adventure were also some good 2D games in the series, minus the boat parts in SRA.

Also, project needlemouse website wtf

No, Rush had too many bottomless pits. Coughbottomlesspitstagecough.

Kind of the same with Unleashed's day stages, except those were just unfun and slippery. The non Wii versions might have been a bit better.

The only stages in Rush where I found bottomless pits to be incredibly annoying to the point of me remembering them were really only the Sky and Space stages, and parts of the Carnival.

Also, wasn't the Wii/PS2 versions of Unleashed considered the worst of the 4 versions?

I only played the 360 version and disliked all of it. The daytime stages manage to be boring and frustrating at the same time, playing like glorified rollercoasters and for long segments only consisting of you holding down the boost button while at the same time often throwing unfair designs at you causing many cheap deaths.

The werehog stages would be fun if they didn't last 30-60 minutes each and you didn't have to bash your way through hordes of generic enemies every few metres.
