For most of these characters, their full name does not show up in-game. Plus, they can't possibly try to use that excuse for Leonil/Leonel, Alier/ARIE, Gunther/GANZER, Bonn/Banz, or Rolenta/Lorenta.

I see nothing wrong with the translation.
This is like the whole Phantasia thing, where everyone was pissed the main character was named Cress instead of Cless, and the summoner was Claus instead of Klarth. ~~~ There are two words that will open up many doors for you: 'Pull' and 'Push'. |

I wish that was true for the majority of the name changes I've seen so far. At least half of them make no sense given the katakana, though I'll concede that Leonil/Gunther/Rolenta do.
