Getting a laptop fairly soon, price isn't an issue.

What i'm looking for is something that's high end, has great battery life, able to play recent games decently (though I'm not talking about ultra quality setting stuff here), reliability, a good cooling system, and all that jazz. Not very familiar with laptops unfortunately, so I don't even know where to look as far as brands and the like goes.

I don't know that much about them myself, but I'll ask some friends today and get an answer.

Fuck Macs.

Whatever you do, research the specific components for any flagrant flaws, like spontaneous combustion, or incompatibility between parts that causes your motherboard to melt.

I know a guy who has a high-end ASUS laptop, but I haven't had to chance to talk to him about laptops yet. If you want his input, you could wait until this Thursday. That is, if he shows up.

Macs don't go with the "play games" part anyway.

One friend says Apple or Toshiba. Another says absolutely no Dell or Toshiba. Another says HP with duel core processor. 320gb space, 4gb RAM, Ati HD 4350 video card. I don't presume to know what most of that stuff means, so I can't really tell you if its sound advice. Based on my knowledge of my friends, I'd have to say Apple since he's probably the smartest.

Avoid Dell and HP.

Asus is pretty good gaming-wise, and I'm sure that if you were motivated enough to tinker, you could dual boot Linux with Windows, for more work-oriented programs. A friend of mine has a really nice Toshiba so that's okay I guess.

If you're using it almost exclusively for work, go for a mac; but really, games.

I have a desktop already. This laptop would be for taking with me to school, plane trips, and traveling.

I'm in love with my Lenovo X201 Tablet PC and I highly recommend it if price isn't an issue.

Really light, portable, doesn't get hot at all compared to my old HP laptop, has a Power Manager program so the battery can easily last over 6 hours, and the touchscreen makes it great for taking notes for class.

My only complaint is the onboard video card, it can't run anything the newer games like Left 4 Dead ;_;

But it can run Starcraft 2 so I dunno, haven't really installed any games on it cause I haven't had the time to play anything. Runs 1080p movies just fine though.

If price isn't an issue, I think alienware laptops may be good; I think they're built specifically for gaming. I don't know too much else about them in terms of cooling and battery life though, I just know a friend of mine is enjoying it so it may be worth looking into.
