Everything's subjective Sturm. You cannot prove to me that, lets say, the Sky is blue just because we both see it that way. For all we know our own sense of colour is incorrect, because of the way the eye works. Or, just a different way of viewing it. Bee's see Ultra Violet Light, therefore their sense of colour to us, is distorted. But, if a bee had a big enough brain to compare them both, it would say ours is disorted.
You said Static X aren't Metal. I do wonder why Nu METAL and Industrial METAL somehow fit them then?
Pentagram are Proto Doom as well. I'm well aware of the bands in between, and perhaps I'm not the best person to comment here, as I've not heard that many of them, but from what I have heard, they sound far more Proto than actual.

QUOTE (Chaos Seraph @ Jul 16 2006, 06:52 PM) | Everything's subjective Sturm. |
So now 1+1 is based on opinion? No.
QUOTE | You cannot prove to me that, lets say, the Sky is blue just because we both see it that way. |
Um, yes actually, I can. Well I can't, because I don't have the required scientific background, but I can at least tear through your next point with what I've got.
QUOTE | For all we know our own sense of colour is incorrect, because of the way the eye works. Or, just a different way of viewing it. |
No no no. Colour is quantifiable! It's a quantifiable property of light! It doesn't matter how the eye works, or what you want to believe, one colour is always that colour, no matter what.
QUOTE | You said Static X aren't Metal. |
Because they aren't.
QUOTE | I do wonder why Nu METAL and Industrial METAL somehow fit them then? |
First, I never said anything about Industrial Metal, because that is not a genre. They are Industrial. Not Industrial Metal, as I said, that is not a genre. Nu-Metal is more a mix of grunge rock and electronic, often with a dash of rap/hip-hop. Nu-Metal does not equate to NEW-Metal.
QUOTE | Pentagram are Proto Doom as well. I'm well aware of the bands in between, and perhaps I'm not the best person to comment here, as I've not heard that many of them, but from what I have heard, they sound far more Proto than actual. |
And? Prototype Doom is still Doom.
QUOTE (Raijinininininilininilinilli) | Genres are like other words. The people that use it shape its meaning. |
Yes, they've been defined, and now Seraph is trying to stretch the definition to his fancy. It's like slang. When people use words like "tight" and "mad" against their originally intended meanings.

1. Yes. Actually. 1 can mean more than 1 thing.
2. Actually, you can't. Its impossible to prove things through simple statements.
3. Um, no? It depends on the type of light, as I said.
4. To you.
5. Industrial Metal started in the late 1980s when early electronic (industrial) bands such as Ministry and KMFDM added guitars and elements of metal to their music when previously they had no guitars. Now there are many industrial metal bands, generally using electric guitars, synthesizers, drum machines or drums, sequencers, keyboards and samplers. Many nu metal bands and other metal bands draw a influences from industrial metal too. A band is often called "industrial metal" if they use a lot of keyboards, synths, samples and electric guitars. Generally the guitar work is fairly basic, very heavy and distorted and not always the main focus of the music (the electronic elements dominate).
Thats my definition of Industrial.
Nu-metal originated in the mid 90s, and it is typically a fusion of grunge/alt metal, electronic music/hip hop and other metal genres, normally thrash metal. Many metal fans don't consider this to be a true metal genre, and the term nu-metal is often used in a negative manner. The actual sound of the genre is quite hard to properly classify, as it can be quite different from band to band. Generally, the guitar work focuses more on mood than complexity, so it's mainly power chords. Sometimes the guitars a de-tuned to give a lower pitch. The drums also normally follow a simple beat. The vocals can vary, with either harsher, more aggressive vocals akin to metalcore, pop like vocals or occasionally rapped vocals.
And thats mine of Nu Metal.
Static fit that quite well if you ask me.
6. So all Thrash Metal is actually Black Metal?
Doom Metal DOES come from Black Sabbath's first three albums: the slow, evil riffs, the heavy groove and the bleak lyrics. But then a lot of metal is derived from Sabbath, so this particular facet of their sound just kind of lay around until St. Vitus and then Candlemass came along and did something with it. Candlemass are really the fathers of Doom Metal, and pretty much every Doom band today has either been inspired by them or compared to them at some point.
7. And Kudos to you. But this is my personal opinion. I love how you all put so much emphasis on "personal preference" and "personal opinion" when someone confronts you but then eat your own words and turn hypocritical when someone happens to disagree with you.
I could care less whether you think LastFM is good or not. No one is forcing me or you to use to anything. But when you've got brainless tools like yourself running around talking shit about things they know nothing about, you can't simply stand by and twidle your thumbs while they ignorantly insult your preference and continue to show devotion to something like lastFM just because its considered "the greatest music finder of all time" by a guy who can't even accept other people's opinions.
I don't use LastFM because I don't like it. I expressed that, if it pissed you off, well then sorry, but its not changing.
I call Static-X Nu/Industrial Metal because thats what I find them to fit well. Don't like it? Live with it.

QUOTE (Chaos Seraph @ Jul 16 2006, 11:32 PM) | 1. Yes. Actually. 1 can mean more than 1 thing. |
I shouldn't even continue with this; you've already proved your idiocy quite well in claiming that the result of 1+1 is subjective.
QUOTE | 2. Actually, you can't. Its impossible to prove things through simple statements. |
What are you talking about? I said that I couldn't without a significant background in science. Are you forgetting how to read the entire response now?
QUOTE | 3. Um, no? It depends on the type of light, as I said. |
You never said anything about it varying on the type of light, and um, YES. Colour is based on the wavelength of a light. Everybody gets the same damn light, the sun doesn't change based on your political or religious beliefs.
No, to anyone who pays attention to music structure.
QUOTE | 5. I like how you're still getting all your information from Wikipedia after it's been established that they're not the most reliable.
QUOTE | Static fit that quite well if you ask me. |
AGAIN, I said Static-X IS Nu-Metal and Industrial Rock. What you are not getting, is that Industrial is NOT a metal genre, and neither is Nu-Metal.
QUOTE | 6. So all Thrash Metal is actually Black Metal? |
Excuse me? Where did you get that stupid idea? I never said anything similar to that, ever.
QUOTE | Doom Metal DOES come from Black Sabbath's first three albums: the slow, evil riffs, the heavy groove and the bleak lyrics. |
I could swear this is a copy and paste as well, but I can't quite place my finger where it's from...
QUOTE | But then a lot of metal is derived from Sabbath, so this particular facet of their sound just kind of lay around until St. Vitus and then Candlemass came along and did something with it. Candlemass are really the fathers of Doom Metal, and pretty much every Doom band today has either been inspired by them or compared to them at some point. |
No... No, not quite. It was a long time after I got into Doom that I heard about Candlemass. Yet, everytime I mentioned Doom, I heard these names constantly: Anathema, My Dying Bride, Katatonia, Paradise Lost and Black Sabbath. Candlemass is not the father of Doom, for to be so, they would have to have created it. And they did not, Black Sabbath did.
QUOTE | 7. And Kudos to you. But this is my personal opinion. I love how you all put so much emphasis on "personal preference" and "personal opinion" when someone confronts you but then eat your own words and turn hypocritical when someone happens to disagree with you. |
Except Genres are not subjective. I say this over and over again, but it just seemd to rebound off your thick skull; Genres are based on musical structure, rooted deep within music theory. They have nothing to do with opinion.
QUOTE | I could care less whether you think LastFM is good or not. |
Then why did you come in just to bash it? That's trolling, you know.
QUOTE | But when you've got brainless tools like yourself running around talking shit about things they know nothing about, |
First, I am not brainless. Second, I am not a tool, unless you are somehow using me, but no, as you are getting so worked up, it seems the contrary. Third, I know what I am talking about. I don't just listen to music and assume I know what's what. I study music, you know. And I mean the ACTUAL music, not the band's history, or what was written by some fan on a wiki about them. I do not listen to music purely for enjoyment.
QUOTE | you can't simply stand by and twidle your thumbs while they ignorantly insult your preference |
Quote a single place in this thread where I have said that Static-X sucks, and I will stop arguing you. You can't. Because I never did. I even explained that I LIKE STATIC-X. I have never insulted you in this thread.
QUOTE | and continue to show devotion to something like lastFM just because its considered "the greatest music finder of all time" by a guy who can't even accept other people's opinions. |
I can accept opinions. You don't see me ripping through the "What religion are you" thread, bashing everyone who believes in God, do you? No. I have NEVER bashed someone for an opinion, or preference. I have teased, but I have never bashed.
QUOTE | I don't use LastFM because I don't like it. I expressed that, if it pissed you off, well then sorry, but its not changing. |
No, it didn't piss me off. What bothered me was that you're basing an entire service on what some users of the service are claiming about their favourite band. And that you came in here saying it sucked based on that. You're the troll here, not me.
QUOTE | I call Static-X Nu/Industrial Metal because thats what I find them to fit well. Don't like it? Live with it. |
Again, Static-X is Nu-Metal and Industrial ROCK (there is no such genre as Industrial Metal, genre definitions make it an impossibility). I never said I don't like it, and even said the contrary when I explained, several times, that they are Nu-Metal and Industrial Rock, and I like them.
I swear, I have never met someone as inattentive as you.

1. Can you prove over that 1 + 1 = 2?
No.
2. I read it. I said you cannot prove it.
3. Again, sadly, no. You can't prove that.
4. I'm sure you're an excellent judge of that.
5. Its not wikipedia. Either of them.
This however is.
It is difficult to distinguish many industrial metal artists and industrial rock because both genres leave much room for ingenuity and creativity. By convention, all industrial metal artists may be more vaguely described as industrial rock as well, but not all industrial rock artists are properly described as industrial metal. This is ironic considering industrial metal emerged before industrial rock.
Shut up please.
6. Thrash Metal is typically Proto-Black Metal. If Sabbath are Doom, then Metallica are Black Metal.
7. Go ahead and try.
8. The first lot started Doom/Death.
Black Sabbath inspired the genre.
That simple.
9. Yes. They. Are.
Why the fuck do you get people arguing over genres then?
When the conversation is going like...
Person A: Deathnaugh is Symphonic/Gregorian Person B: WTF? They are SOO Post-indie/Melodic Power Person A: BULLSHIT, listen to track 666 off their album "4" and tell me they're not!
Conversation goes on for a week until the band becomes populer, which is when they both say "Pshh, they're mainstream now" and agree that they're nu-metal rip offs.
10. So I can't say I dislike something?
Great.
11. So do I. Surprisingly. Maybe not as much as you, but believe me, I take music seriously.
12. My Preference not to use LastFM.
13. Oh yeah. Right. Teased. MY BAD.
¬¬
14. Thats not the basis. I never said LastFM sucked. I don't like it, thats all.
My basis is that crap that like pops up all over the place, inevitibly. Its why I don't use GameFAQs anymore either.
15. To quote what I quoted earlier.

QUOTE (Chaos Seraph @ Jul 17 2006, 12:45 AM) | 1. Can you prove over that 1 + 1 = 2?
No. |
Yes, yes I can. You have an apple in one hand, and another apple in the other hand. Together you have two apples.
QUOTE | 2. I read it. I said you cannot prove it. |
My being unable to prove it does not change the fact that it's true. Are YOU YOURSELF able to prove the gravitational constant?
QUOTE | 3. Again, sadly, no. You can't prove that. |
So, now you're just going to say "NOPE NOPE NOPE" to everything I say because you realize you're starting to lose? Fine with me.
QUOTE | 4. I'm sure you're an excellent judge of that. |
How many years have you spent in school dedicated to music? Hm? Any?
QUOTE | 5. Its not wikipedia. Either of them. |
Except, oh yes, it is. Go look for yourself. It's not word-for-word, of course, but it's pretty damn close.
QUOTE | It is difficult to distinguish many industrial metal artists and industrial rock because both genres leave much room for ingenuity and creativity. As I said, the definition of Metal does not make it possible for there to be a crossover between Industrial and Metal.
QUOTE | 6. Thrash Metal is typically Proto-Black Metal. If Sabbath are Doom, then Metallica are Black Metal. |
Wow, you're really grasping at straws here. Black rarely has a repettitive structure, Thrash is practically BASED on that.
QUOTE | 8. The first lot started Doom/Death.
Black Sabbath inspired the genre.
That simple. |
Inspiration is creation.
QUOTE | 9. Yes. They. Are.
Why the fuck do you get people arguing over genres then? |
We only argue with people like YOU.
QUOTE | When the conversation is going like...

You would be whoever is wrong in that conversation.
QUOTE | Conversation goes on for a week until the band becomes populer, which is when they both say "Pshh, they're mainstream now" and agree that they're nu-metal rip offs. |
I don't do that, nor have I ever seen that done.
QUOTE | 10. So I can't say I dislike something?
Great. |
Yes, you can. But when you come into a thread dedicated to the thing you dislike, that's when you get in trouble. Luckily for you, it was MY thread, so I didn't warn you, and instead, instigated this in an attempt to teach you. Sadly, you are not a quick learner.
QUOTE | 12. My Preference not to use LastFM. |
I said QUOTE. QUOTE. And please do so in arguing from now on, as it makes it very difficult having to count each of my OWN points in order to know what the fuck you're talking about. And, no, I did not bash your preference against last.fm. I didn't even tease you. I only tried to correct a mistake you made so that people wouldn't be scared away from it for your idiocy.
QUOTE | 14. Thats not the basis. I never said LastFM sucked. I don't like it, thats all.
My basis is that crap that like pops up all over the place, inevitibly. Its why I don't use GameFAQs anymore either. |
What exactly are you talking about? I've never seen a single pop up on GFAQs OR last.fm. And if the ads are your only problem with last.fm, fucking donate and they'll go away for you.
QUOTE | 15. To quote what I quoted earlier.
It is difficult to distinguish many industrial metal artists and industrial rock because both genres leave much room for ingenuity and creativity. By convention, all industrial metal artists may be more vaguely described as industrial rock as well, but not all industrial rock artists are properly described as industrial metal. And again, no, Industrial Metal does not exist. Take a few classes on music theory, then come back.
QUOTE | I swear, you're the most stubborn git I've ever met. |
And there you go. I've not thrown a single insult, and here's a shining example of one of your own. Fantastic.
