Well, I finally got a hold of this game yesterday... what do I think? IT'S AWESOME!...
Yes, I didn't think capcom could do it, but they've provided us an exact port of the original AND a mode that uses the unique DS features and has more zombies... plus more ammo to blow their heads of like balloons... I wasn't sure to expect when I got this game... Lack of VA, shoddy animation, gimmicky DS features... Luckily, only the latter seems prevalent here... and in most cases, it's really not... The aformentioned DS features have you solving puzzles and slashing zombies with the touchscreen... Although the monster slashing is just pointless unless there are 5 enemies on you at once, the DS screen features an array of different puzzles... Now with my limited playtime of this game (and the limitedness of the day) I wasn't able to get far, but the one puzzle I encountered was lockpicking... it's a bit of a brain stretching exercise if you don't know what to do... i'm not sure if it's explained in the manual or not, but it will probably take you a few minutes to figure out what to do on some of them... and then there's classic mode... if you've played the original RE (not director's cut, which features a few differences), you've played this. There's nothing new here... except RE portable... and maybe a way for people who missed the original to play it 1996-style. The only graphical change is that the graphics are slightly lower-res and the colors can seem washed out at times. But if you have a DS, you have no reason not to pick up this game: it has multiplayer, touch puzzles, new modes, an extra boss (REbirth mode only), the original VAs, the original FMVs, and the DS speakers make it quite easy to locate zombies... I'd give it an 8.5 out of 10...
The dogs still scare the shit out of me... ph34r the dogs!
