Umm...kind of like both I guess. Riviera seemed to be slightly easier to me and I like my games to be less frantic and driving. Though I'm going to play through Yggdra Union twice (cause I missed the mint DAMN ME >.<) I very much like both of the art but Riviera's bath scenes were better <_<. Less obscured by the light and foliage, and more people. Would have been nice to have the entire valkyrie regiment in the baths with her :D. Oh and Nietzsche too...that name is rather hard to spell :P.

I say Yggdra Union, and chances are I don't have valid reasons to back this up.
Yggdra Union, in my opinion, is one of the hardest games I have ever played. EVER. In the day and age of annoying voice acting (which serves no relevence to the topic.) and tremendously easy games, games like Yggdra Union truly stand out to me. Not only is its story epic, pertaining to a lone heir of a nearly destroyed empire in her quest of retribution on the Bronquia Empire, it is also flat out beautifully woven, with both seriousness and hilarity, all crafting a fascinating story.
The battle system, while parts of it done by other games, is in its own right completely new, having cards affect everything in the game, and since you can't redo actions once you do something, like moving, it is all completely stratagy. Other "stratagy" games, such as Fire Emblem, don't even compare to the difficulty of the game, which is heavily aided by its battle system.
It doesn't help that Gulcasa will undoubtedly rape you the first time you encounter him, either.
The artwork is fascinating to look at, and the music doesn't seem to hurt my ears. Some tunes actually seem to never get old, and thus I have a horrible habit of leaving the game on, just listening to some tune in it over and over and over again.
Truly, I would have loved to have voice-acting for all the characters, but given how large the game is with all of its pros anyways, the voice acting is something I can let slide.
All-in-all, I think Yggdra Union wins over Riviera by a landslide for me, as Riviera was by far one of the easiest RPGs I've ever played, even though I enjoyed the journey it provided, and some music in Riviera got really on my nerves. While I have yet to see how "shiny" the RiviPSP graphics are, basing them on the GBA version's, I think Yggdra Union's graphics are more refined.
Truthfully, Yggdra Union just cuts the butter better than Riviera, so to speak.

Questionably large eyes...yes yes, that's a good point to bring up. Ahem. Until I got used to playing Yggdra Union, I preferred the art of Riviera, though now I'm liking YU's character art more... BF45 Spoilers » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « Milanor's random hilarity, like the sword/problem lines after BF45 (which I believe was not present in the Japanese version? I played through it again to check...also, I recall it was Milanor saying that there were two Aeginas, not Yggdra...but that's more likely to be wrong. Anyone mind confirming either one?)
Personally, I like the characters and story of YU a lot better - they seem more engaging than those of Riviera. I'm gonna say I like YU more just because, really... This post has been edited by Aekari: Dec 4 2006, 04:29 AM

QUOTE(Raijinili @ Dec 4 2006, 06:34 AM) Response to Aekari's spoiler: » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « Two Aeginas Wait, what? That doesn't quite answer what I was asking. » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « I think I recall that Milanor was the one that asked the question about there being two Aeginas on BF43, not Yggdra like it was in the English version. My memory about it isn't too clear though. I was asking if anyone would like to confirm whether it was Milanor or Yggdra who said it in the Japanese version. Sorry if I wasn't clear. Yggdra Union, because of the music, characters, graphics, and most of all, the gameplay. With everything else, they were mostly equal to me.
Yggdra Union had less music that I hated. With Riviera, I like two or three songs, but hate the rest. Yggdra Union just plainly had better music (I mean, listen to Battle on the Requiem or Yggdra Union. So pretty). Except for Milanor's battle theme, that was horrible. :(
Don't ask me about graphics, Yggdra Union had beautiful sprites and Riviera didn't. That's it.
In Riviera, I cared about only two characters (Cierra and Malice), and then there was a small amount that I just didn't care about, and the rest would have made the game better if they weren't even in the game (LEDAH GO AWAY PLEEEAAASE). In YU, I love everyone except for Ortega, Rosary, Roswell, and Cruz. :O
And oh god yes the gameplay. While Riviera was fun and great and all, YU had battles that were more pleasing to my taste. I love the way they handled the cards and how they gave you so many ways to screw with your character (in a good way!). The equipment and diversity in it is just amazing, and it's great that unlike CERTAIN OTHER GAMES (ie Fire Emblem) you actually have control over the battle and there's more than one way to get a huge advantage in battles.
I feel like I should also mention the art. I really like Riviera's (except for the WSC version) art, and at one point I didn't like Yggdra Union's art at all. But it really grew on me, and now I like it even more than Riviera's.
