Flying Princess - Inter Breed - was finally released last week, and it was well worth the wait and the money. It's a hentai strategy RPG Angry Birds-derivate with monstergirls, and exceptionally polished and well-designed.

You flick your heroines at enemies, and a mouse-click mid-flight stalls their momentum and makes them execute a character-specifc special attack. After they've landed, they will repeat this attack on the ground (or in the air, if they're one of the flying monstergirls) at the end of each subsequent turn, provided they aren't killed by an enemy. The goal of each stage—usually divided into 3–5 “Battles” (screens)—is to defeat all the enemies labelled “Leader”. Your number of turns per Battle is limited by the characters you have left over, so if any of them are knocked out in an early Battle you might not be able to get to the end of the stage, because your remaining girls cannot do enough damage (or cover enough ground) to defeat the rest of the enemies.

During a stage you can fulfil different objectives, namely collecting a certain number of coins scattered throughout the stage or finishing within a certain turn limit. This unlocks new and better equipment. You can equip each character with a weapon, armour (which both show on their high-res sprites), and an accessory; and you can further customise each of these items with stat-raising cards. There's also a store where you can buy and sell items, but the stage rewards are much better. Your characters also gain experience and level up.

There's six chapters with 2*5 stages each, and three difficulties. While Normal is a breeze to play through, Hard already requires more thorough preparation. Maniac demands a bit of grinding, equipping your characters with the best things you've got, carefully selecting whom to bring to a stage and where to fling her, and not wasting any turns. It's very challenging and satisfying. Each chapter introduces a new setting with its unique environmental hazards (such as doors you need to break in, currents that affect the flight of your character, or simply difficult terrain that limits your movement on the ground), and new enemies. It's a lot of content and no two stages feel the same.

You can also encounter enemies with floating hearts surrounding them. If you fling one of your human characters at it, they're disabled for the rest of the stage, but at the end they give birth to a monstergirl which joins your army. Shooting a girl at an eagle gives you a harpie, for example, and they inherit their mother's element/colour. Each monstergirl has its own attack and movement patterns, and can procreate as well. There's even hybrids you can breed, for example by tossing a plant girl at a slime to create a dryad!

The original concept, the graphics, and all the gameplay elements really remind me of DHE games. Give it a try if you liked the ilk of Yggdra Union and Kitten, it's great fun.
