Well, we all know that Riviera is half ren'ai (romance sim) anyway. One of the drawing books I have actually says that ren'ai character designers should make roughly six to nine hero-compatible girls (or guys) in the general outlines of a "Heroine", "Honor Roll Student", "Athletic Girl", "Cute Younger Girl", "Sexy Older Girl", "Bad Girl", "Princess", "Quiet, Reserved Girl", and "Smart-aleck". That's why so many ren'ai characters (and even Riviera's girls) sometimes seem so stereotypical--they ARE based on personality stereotypes. This is generally done so that there'll be at least one character that the player likes.
So in Riviera, the "heroine" would be Fia, the "athletic girl" is obviously Serene, the younger girl and older girl are Lina and Cierra, the smart-aleck is Rose, and the "bad girl" is Malice. I still find it amusing that the "quiet, reserved" character (Ledah) was made male instead of female... which is part of my justification for saying that Ein swings both ways.
Anyway.
The "bad girl" and "quiet girl" character types usually have hidden secrets or painful pasts, which gives them a little more depth than the average ren'ai character (I've heard lots of people complain about how none of Rivi's other characters can measure up to Ledah and Malice, and this is probably why). But I like the way that Riviera gives everybody depth in its little ways...
Like Cierra going "There goes my calorie count" if you make her use steak. XD
