Does anyone here play an instrument of any kind?

From what I've heard, music apparently affects children - mostly teenagers - in a very dramatic way. By music, I am not refering to "modern" music listened to by children every day, but rather more along the lines of classical music, and less "violent" music so to speak. Children who play musical instrument supposedly do better academically than children whom do not.

I personally play the violin.

Define "violent" music.
And children who play instruments usually do better in math because they need to learn time signatures. It's supposed that they can also do better in languages classes because of the learning of defined structures in music. But, it is a rather vague correlation.

Anyways. I played the Trumpet in fifth/sixth grade, and I'll be taking a Piano class this coming semester, though I've been kind of tinkering with them most of my life.

Modern is an incredibly broad term. There are classical composers today you know.

I play Piano/Keyboard, Used to Play French Horn, and am also able to play Guitar, Recorder and a little Drums. Nothing Huge though.

They haven't really helped me in school at all aside from Music of course.

I play piano, violin, and I've just recently started up flute (again. I quit after fifth grade because my school orchestra teacher was REALLY SCARY AND MEAN ;__;).

It's so nice to know that more people play instruments than I expected. Yes, I had low expectations.

I remember Fensti played the Cello or something <__<

I play the piano, clarinet/Bass clarinet, bells and flute. Not really that into flute or the clarinet. I play the bells at school.

Yes Malice, I do play the cello. I wonder why you remember that though...

I also plan to learn bass guitar at some point, along with violin, viola, string bass, and mandolin.

I may begin learning a new instrument soon. The Baritone Horn for my band at school. I still need to think about it first. <_<

And my brother's getting a full size viola in about a week, so then I can begin learning that.

I play the piano and French horn, although I would like to learn how to play a koto, a Japanese string insturment which strangely resembles a hybrid between that of a zither and guitar.
