About the equips... Options

The bonuses they add, are they permanent or do they only last for the duration it's equipped on the character? Also, some of my items disappeared after a while and I hadn't used them. If the stat boosts are permanent, I lost quite a few stat points which I could've used on Yggdra... --;

If that's the case, I might have to start again for a 3rd time XD

EDIT: I just figured it out --; this whole time I was using equips to heal my units instead of adding stats so...that still warrents a do over.
