So... are there many people actually familiar with the ORIGINAL version of Riviera?

Personally, I just want to see more of the art. It seems a little weird (ESPECIALLY the images I have seen of Ledah--the ones of Fia and Ein I've looked at are kinda cute), but I'm sure everyone here would love the comparison. And the background, because we're all Rivi lovers and the more stuff we've got the better, right~~?

I actually have the ROM if you want it. But, I can't play far because the emulator crashes in the second battle when the enemy tries to use its MAX attack.

*_* Whoa, that was fast. Thank you!

I have a thing about emulators, and my PC has very limited drive space, so no can do about that, but thanks anyway. We're lucky to have such a nice leading mod!

http://www.zophar.net is a better source of emulators.
WSC stands for WonderSwan Color. It was a Bandai handheld released only in Japan, and was where Riviera first appeared. Also, Square seemed to be hoping it would be able to take down the GBA since they released a bunch of old Final Fantasies for it.

Wow...the original version seems like...well...low quality?

Did they?

The WSC version didn't have voice acting, as far as I can tell.

I got to play the original on a WonderSwan. I was like 13 at the time. This guy that lived next to me, was a major import freak. He had all flavors of WS so he let me borrow one and Riviera to try one out to see if i was impressed enough to import one. Although the WSC looked cooler, It just wasn't impressive enough compared to the GBA... Although I extremely liked Riviera (i knew kana and a few Kanji at the time so I could make out some of the item names...) and was hoping it would get ported to the GBA. A couple years pass. It released and I don't know it. I receive Nintendo Power and the one that had the TP trailer on it also had a Riviera trailer on it. I flip, try to get it, can't... so i have to settle used... oh well... Riviera is still an awesome title...
Long, unrelated story, but yeah, I got to play the original...

The original seems pretty much the same bar the character art...

The updated version looks better. They look cuter. ^-^

Much cuter. Drawn by a wonderful artist who has HARRY POTTER FANART CHIBIS on her site.

God that picture cracks me up.

I went to Japan a time ago, and bought the game and the WSC (used ones). I still play it sometimes, 'cause I only have the new version in an emulator. (My PC isn't Handheld >.>)

Maybe most of us are just biased because we played the GBA version first...? ^_^;;

But the art is much, much cuter, especially Ledah. He doesn't seem quite so forbidding or frigid in Tobe-sama's style.

The art is much more gothic in the WSC version, which I wouldn't have a problem with (and it would actually quite fit the story) if it didn't suck.
