I just got back from a friend's wedding reception; the guy who I went is a scientist in California, and he knows some of the designers of the LHC. He explained most of the basic ideas of it, and he says there is no reason it should considered a doomsday device in any way.

Um, it's QUANTUM-PHYSICALLY possible for it to create a black hole which will eat us.
If everyone took two pieces of paper and tried to stick one through the other without breaking either, it's probably as likely that at least one of those pieces of paper will go through another.

How do atom smashers create black holes, exactly?
How do natural black holes create themselves?
My physics teacher said the force of gravity at the center of earth is zero because all the mass of earth pulls equally on you in every direction. Wouldn't it be the same at the center of a star?

Yep, how good it is to have a weapon of mass DELETION in a size of an atom. Seriously, this tiny point can shred stuff into pieces...... And will not be seen anymore.... But what happen to the energy resides inside the shredded stuff? It cannot be destroyed, right? Because energy cannot be created nor destroyed, only changes into another form..... Then, it should change into......Hawking Radiation, somebody?

That's so stupid, even if there IS a CHANCE for a black hole to happen, it just won't because the chances are just toooooooooo small to be worried with and it wouldn't (The ratio, I mean) change every time you 'fired' that cool machine up.
