The Linux GAIM can direct connect. The Windows version has a stupid bug that won't allow direct connects though..

personally, MSN works fine for me.

IRC has Sturm and Ash in it. that means its a kick-fun area :\

Most AIMs have spyware in them anyway. I use GAIM because of better security, no spyware, it's open source,
