A Hologram for the King is supposed to be really good.
I don't remember ever seeing this post, but last year or whenever I read that, I liked it. It seemed more mainstream/normal/whatever than other stuff I've read from him though, stylistically and all that. And to counter your two year old post so someone else can reply to this one in another two years, I've heard nothing but crazypraise for
The Circle. Like, to the point that when I bought it I had cashiers telling me that they heard fabulous things and that some publishers or whatever that came over were seriously hyping it up to them or something. It's also still on the "NEW FICTION" shelves at the Barnes and Noble stores here despite being like a year old. I don't know what that means, but maybe it is a thing.
BUT NO, WHAT THIS IS REALLY ABOUT IS
YOUR FATHERS, WHERE ARE THEY? AND THE PROPHETS, DO THEY LIVE FOREVER?. That is a special book, right there. Definitely my favorite of his from seriousland perspective, though not from sillyland perspective. BUT MAN JUST LOOK AT THIS

—Like I said the other day, if there were some sort of plan for men like me, I think we could do a lot of good.
—You talking about your canal again?
—A canal, a spaceship. A moon colony. Maybe just a bridge. I don't know. But the walking around, sitting, eating at tables... It doesn't work. We need something else.
—What do you want to build? The world's already built.
—So I just walk around in an already-built world? That's a joke.
—That's the joke you live in.
I sort of want to just post the whole chapter that's from since I love the whole thing and there are better things to quote from it but then people would have already read a whole chapter when they actually read the book and they'll be like "oh."
