Common courtesy is not the same as deserved privacy.

QUOTE
We owe the East a lot for coming out with games that we can enjoy, so it's best to at least acknowledge their original background.
By ruining the language?

QUOTE
Does it offend the purist types that nowadays some anime and games contain suffixes and relationship-related nicknames untranslated, too?
Yes. I'd like to call it a laziness in localization, but it's not just that.

Attack/complain in private. Or is common courtesy entirely extinct?

When you post your work on a PUBLIC site, you forfeit all right to bitch and moan about other people thinking it's not perfect. Deal with it or get lost. As an aside, I find it hilariously ironic that you of all people are trying to get on a high horse about common courtesy when you can't offer the same to the owner of the site. Hypocrite.

Also, I am TRYING to have respect for the ORIGINAL culture Riviera and Yggdra came from. It's not like I'm one of the people who goes around going "lol hey japs suk!!!1!!" all the time. We owe the East a lot for coming out with games that we can enjoy, so it's best to at least acknowledge their original background.

Yeah, sure! Let's respect the East by butchering their entire God damn language! I know I feel SO RESPECTED when Japanese people butcher a language I've been studying all my life by turning it into Engrish! It doesn't insult me at all that I've spent years studying on how to write properly and the Japanese try to make "DEFEND HE LIVER" sound like something cool. Oh, and I'm definitely not insulted when I've spent my entire life learning Chinese and some random moron tattoos a random Chinese character on their arm and pretends to know what it means when they have absolutely no clue how it's even pronounced. And it most certainly doesn't insult me that someone who learns all her Japanese - oh, I'm sorry, Otakunese - from watching anime thinks she knows more about the language and culture than me, who has studied it for neigh 10 years now. Nope. Not at all.

Oh wait.

Yes. Ai Yori Aoshi was fucking ruined because they brought over the Japanese suffixes into the English dub. You know why? Because Eastern and Western languages don't mix. Crazy thought, I know. Oh wait, it's not a crazy thought. It's all true.

Get real.

Of course common courtesy is extinct. That's why you don't appear to care that you're offending someone, and will probably continue to do so in the future.

Trying to show respect is fine and dandy, but mixing languages and upsetting people generally isn't.

And everyone here DOES acknowledge their original background. You don't see me going around saying "RIVIERA NEVER CAME OUT IN JAPAN YOU'RE ALL LIARS," do you? We acknowledge them and respect them plenty. We just do it in ways that can't upset people.

Honestly, it doesn't sound like you're trying to respect them when your response to someone from the East who finds it offensive is "Have some respect for other people's work, please." What a great way to show respect, to completely dismiss his complaint in that way.

QUOTE(Feral Phoenix)
How strange, your elitist attitude and the fact that you only posted here to complain offend me, so I guess we're even. ^_^
No, what offends you is that I complained at all.
QUOTE(Feral Phoenix)
I don't post this stuff just for you to whine and try to tear it down. Have some respect for other people's work, please.
Posting a story does not entitle you to only praise. You don't automatically get immunity to criticism. How arrogant of you to assume otherwise.
QUOTE(Feral Phoenix)
If you have an issue with me, PM me so this doesn't turn into an argument thread.
If you really wanted that, then you wouldn't have answered me on the board. You just want the last word.

You get as good as you give, and then you whine? Come on.

Then don't use language-exclusive things for works in other languages. It makes Asians look like they can't speak proper English.

When I speak English, I don't call my cousin "Benjamin-go". The suffixes only exist in certain languages, and I keep them where they belong. To do otherwise is to look stupid.

When I speak English, I don't use Chinese or Japanese or Korean grammar. Why should the suffixes be any different? If I speak Chinese, should I use Japanese suffixes for people who are Japanese? If I speak Japanese, should I use Chinese suffixes for people who are Chinese?

Do you have Japanese friends that call you by "-chan"? Do they call their teachers by "-sensei"? Do you understand, now, why it would be stupid for them to do so?

Common speech is not the place to do so. I don't call it "La Mona Lisa". I don't name Italian art using Italian articles unless they're part of the name.

Purist of what now?

Feral. They're all right. You should be more open to critiscm, and viewed in the right light, it'll help you improve. Posting it on a site that provokes critiscm is normal as hell, and you can't please everyone.

Some people like it, other people don't. Just don't whine about those who said it wasn't great and worship those who think it was. Common courtesy only applies when you're not in this place, really.

By the way, i agree with Ash. It's stupid how people can tattoo characters they don't even know onto random parts of their body. I won't be surprised if they wrote "shit" all over their chest because they thought it looked cool in Chinese.

It is everyone's right to have views of their own and to express it. Live with it. Besides, you know you've got two admirers up there. And i thought it was kind of funny, too.

Oh, yeah, what happens after they PM you their insults/comments/critiscm? What then? I think you'd give them the same scolding anyways.

I like it. Sure it's out of character to a certain extent, mainly with Nessiah's personality (although, I suppose he could be like that. He's not "evil" or anything...) and the whole Gulcasa x Yggdra crack pairing >.>

But it's funny! XD I can totally imagine it happening. Take THAT Disney o:

You have a point, Raijinili
I agree with everybody else, you gotts be a little more open to crticism.
Sure, little details help and all to make it a more accurate thing.
though I don't know if hounding constantly on that kind of stuff sort of ruins it for the reader, and for other people, no? I mean I agree with the others that this fanfic is not accurate, as well as messing up some lore, and whatnot, but this is a fanfic!
Last time I recall, fanfic are meant to be FUN. While they do have to have a certain amount of accuracy, having everything perfect like the way the game went of how it's "supposed to be," A fanfic is meant to be a fun topic! It doen't have to be completely accurate. It doesn't have to be mark-on personalities for each character. In fact, I think that changing Some of the details and stuff like that adds creativity and origianlity to something.
Okay, all you prefection people (I'm one too, y'know.) You can have your stories about "Since Roswell was killed, or Gulcasa had been dead for...."
Thiugh, on a side note, having stories closely based on the actual storyline can often lead to some very interesting stories.
Look, reading this makes me think "This is Feral's alternate universe for Yggdra Union." So let him have it. Geez.

That is also true.
Wait, didn't I already state that you (Feral) should take the criticism as well?
Whatever....
