Suicide is also a highly egotistical action. Many people kill themselves without thinking about the grief and trauma they leave behind in family members and friends.
As such, if your death upsets people, your life prevents this upset and thus keeps them happy (or at least happier than they'd be if you were gone). ~~~ The undying proof that Serene's a genius:
