I assume it would destroy the universe, as does every other event in which division by zero occurs, even though there's a zero at the top.

Basic algebra: A fraction is a/b where a=any number and b=/= 0...Hence...it's impossible to divide by zero, nothing would happen, because division by zero could never happen.

Then try dividing 0/0 in a calculator, you'll get undefined. Try graphing a line with a slope of 0/0. It can't be done.

Because calculators have failsafes that, if zero is the denominator, they automatically terminate evaluation.

Real answer: It's undefined. The divide-by-zero rule applies before anything else. Graphing a line with slope 0/0 is not possible. It's not a line, it's just a point. Point != Line. ~~~  |

Wrong, wrong, wrong.
A number is undefined if you can't figure out the answer. It has nothing to do with infinity. I can draw an arbitrary curve and draw a second line so that they would meet at a point, the limit would be undefined at that point. Take the graph of 1/X=Y. As X approaches 0, Y approaches infinity. The limit of Y as X approaches 0 is infinity. However, at 0, Y is undefined. It is NOT infinity. Look at X=0. There is not a single point of 1/X=Y on that line. Therefore, there is no Y value for X=0. You know what else is wrong? A number canNOT equal infinity. Infinity is not a number. ~~~ |
