Disgaea 3, The Third Coming Options

I can't find the topic for this or even if there was a topic for it, so. This is what Mari's been working on in the past few days. What can I say, I guess I have a fetish for blue haired + red scarfed heroes.

Anyway.




Main Trio

Mao : an Honor Student at a Private (and Wicked!) Netherworld School. He is the elite of the elite, he skips class, doesn't do homework, and is an overall bad boy. His design is reminiscent of "Mad Scientist". When he sees something that can be a potential experimental subject, his glasses fog up and he goes in to "Glasses Mode". He gets excited easily. His goal is to study Heroes so he can beat his father, an Overlord, and take his title. Don't assume he loves humans or heroes, though. It's quite the opposite, he only cares about learning to beat his old man.

He learned about Heroes beating Overlords from studying countless hours Video Games.

Mao has a red crescent moon scar on his forehead. For what reasons, we do not know. Also noting, his name is probably a play off 魔王 (maou) the Japanese word for Overlord.

Raspberyl : Childhood friend of Mao. She's considered a "delinquent" because she does her homework, volunteers, goes to class early, and is an overall wonderful student. Of course, in the Netherworld this is BAD. They don't want that when you go to school! She's very cute and does her work all the time. haha.

Almaz : "Self Proclaimed Hero" He goes to the Netherworld in order to beat up an Overlord because that's just what heroes* do. He wants to be a hero* in order to impress the human princess he has a crush on. Instead, he runs into Mao, Mao STEALS his Hero* title and Almaz is forced to be his vassal. As his vassal, Almaz tutors Mao privately on how to be a proper and good hero*. By becoming Mao's vassal, Mao saves him from turning into a demon, apparently. (Unclear on this matter.)

Almaz is teased and has pranks pulled on him by Mao a lot, probably because Mao doesn't particularly like humans or heroes*. Almaz is also considered a "Hero Otaku" because he really, really loves heroes. Finally, "Almaz" means "Diamond" in Russian.

Default Title : Hero*

*NOTE : Hero can also be translated as "Brave" like Phantom Brave. Scarlet the Brave It's just a title meaning "Hero" in all respects of the word. I do not know how NISAmerica will finally translate this title.

*NOTE THE SECOND : I don't know how relevant it is, but Almaz uses semi-polite Japanese. Well, much more polite than demons would, anyway.

Gameplay


Since monsters join the party too, they wanted to make them more useful, so N1 concentrated a bit on that and monsters also have skills.

There's a new skill system where you can learn and equip different skills; since there's a limit to the amount of skills you can have at a time, they want the player to try out different combinations. When you pick up a monster and use it as a weapon, that character acquires the monster's skills, too. You can also pick up items on the field and use them as weapons, but they note that you can still buy and equip stuff ahead of time.

Geo Panels are giant cubes in this game. You can pick up and rearrange blocks in order go create crossways or bridges to get across. Throwing isn't the only option to get around now.

Prinnies, Eringa, saber kitties, chefs, and merchants (?) make a return in Disgaea 3. Who knows what wonderful cameos will be in this game! (haaaah.)

There's more to come, I just... ran out of juice. Oh, a lot of the stages take place in a school. I have no idea what other returning classes will be back in this game too. Though, I did see a warrior, ninjas (fem and male), and ronin in many of the screenshots.

Roughly, I assume this game will come out in February knowing Nippon1's track record. It could be much later though, US release might be late fall of next year for us.

I only played Disgaea 2 and that was pretty fun... But buying a PS3 for Disgaea 3? I just don't see that happening for me given the PS3 costs... A lot... And I don't have that kinda money... (Being an unemployed soon-to-be college student)

NISA's finally made a PS2 level RPG! Too bad it's on PS3. Jesus Christ, what a fucking gimmick.

It doesn't bother me as much, mostly because I was already thinking of upgrading to a PS3 in the future. Just needed a reason to do it first. And while the graphics are lol, I really do dig the characters so far. I usually really like games if I can really like the characters.

MGS4, Burnout Paradise and this are my only reasons for buying a PS3.
That'll have to wait in any case.

I'd like to remind there's really no rush for this game, since lol it was just announced. It'll prob. come out in October 2008.

Chances are I'll just buy the game and not buy a PS3. That may seem like a waste, but there may be some chance in the future (PS4 maybe?) where I'll get something that can run it.

I really want to know who that completely white girl in the upper right hand of the top picture is, too.
