I don't know, I think I just don't like how any of the starters look anymore.

I think all of the generations have had interesting and lame starters.
Gen 1: All looked good, none were particularly standout tactically.
Gen 2: Chikorita sucked, Cyndaquil was amazing and Totodile was definitely above average.
Gen 3: Really weird ones, both tactically and look-wise. Sceptile, Blaziken and Mudkip are standout pretties, though.
Gen 4: Most of the initial starters were cute, tactically really only Infernape was great.
Gen 5: I don't like what's been revealed so far. I only like how the grass starter looks.

You shouldn't believe that those are really the gen 5 starters. :( They might be, but there's no reason to believe that they're not fakes, either.

Pokémon got ridiculous after the 2nd gen. I liked a select few of the 3rd gen pokémon (and the general feel of the 3rd gen games), and the best thing about the 4th gen was the distinction between move types and move category (i.e., not all dark types are special anymore).

I'm excited for SS/HG because they'll pretty much be 2nd gen with 4th gen mechanics.

Yeah I feel like fourth gen ruined a lot of Pokemon by giving them evolutions. Even from a competitive standpoint, they ended up being overhyped and aren't the team staples they used to be.

3rd generation was a little iffy but at least it had a lot of original pokemon in it rather then ruining the old good ones. I think the only non-originals were baby versions and I'm all fine with that.

I almost feel like 5th generation could stand to do a restart similar to the 3rd gen. I'm a little tired of these new pokemon crossing paths with the far superior old ones and a 500+ pokedex+being a completionist will kill me.

You make it sound like you actually believe tiers determine everything when you play against other people in Pokemon. They're just as usable as before - you just play with your favorites, of course. Which is why I make entire teams of Slowbros.

It's not about tiers it's about how that now that the hype is over, people have found much better options and then they consequently fall down in the tiers.

Also various small changes have simply made them less good. With bullet punch scizor I would never use Weavile again. Things like that can affect something a lot.

I don't have anything against using your favorites ( I don;t play competitively anymore for a reason), just saying that they were pretty bad evolutions that didn't help really.
