But that just confuses everyone as that makes it seem as if it's supposed to be a voiced [kh] which is the German/Scottish/Irish "ch" and Russian "x".

It's only pronounced like that in ToS because, as stated, Japan doesn't have a syllable that would give the correct pronunciation. I assume they kept the pronunciation in the dub because they thought that was the way the developers wanted it to sound like.
That and I think the bulk of people would pronounce Yggdrasial with a 'yoo' unless you knew Norse mythology. I know I did. ~~~  |

Anyway to most people I don't think it matters much. I always said it with a 'yoo' because... Thats kind of just the way it sounded to me in my head. Though my friend who knows Norse told me the correct way. I still say it with a 'yoo' though. 'Yihg' I never thought of. ~~~ |

Look. Even the Japanese don't pronounce it that way. They don't drop an entire consonant, and you speak a language with all the necessary phonemes to pronounce it correctly meaning you're dropping a consonant, adding a completely new one and changing the vowel sound. That is so wrong it makes me want to cut your eyes out.

Before I actually knew how Yggdrasil was pronounced, I always pronounced it as "Yeeg-drah-sil"
