This thread is for discussion of books. Books you're reading, books you've read, books you're interested in, etc.
--Tom Clancy is lame--
But anyways. I'm currently reading Demons by Fyodor Dostoevsky. It's interesting, but I'm having difficulty getting into it, partially because of school, and partially because the month before I started it, I had just finished the Dark Tower series.

Pshaw.
The writer who wrote the novelization of Halo (The Flood) is lame.
(But shouldn't this go in the *Other Forms* forum?)

In case you didn't notice, "Other Entertainment" is a subsection of Technology.
Also, the description for this board mentions books.

They have AUDIO books you know. Books can be considered technological.
And I frequently read books and stories on my iPod. How bout THAT, son?
Dr Strum
Jan 18 2006, 08:46 PM
Anyone who listens to Audio Books fails at life.
There, I said it.

Let's see, I don't read much, mainly when they force me to in school. I am being forced to read The Scarlet Letter right now. I hate this book.

I love Tamora Pierce. ._. And the Wyrd Trilogy saga by Robin Jarvis.
Malice
Jan 19 2006, 02:28 AM
I like the Tamora Pierce books too~! I'm reading one of her series right now.. forgot what it was called. I just called it the ' Alanna Series' (Just starting the last book) . Arn. I'm also reading Eldest by .. something Paolini. I forgot the name.
I am being fored to read 'The Last Voyage of the Scotian' at school though... Really lame about the oceans and stupid boat voyages.

Jan 19 2006, 03:06 AM
Alanna?! You mean the Song of the Lioness Quartet?! That's my first series by her, I was your age when I read it. Its so good!!

I read audio books. Straight off the tape. With my finger.

Lioness Quartet is one of mah fav series~! XD
I don't really like the series of books after Lioness. Okay, I can accept 'Immortal Realm' and stomach 'Protector of the Small'... but no way I'm gonna buy the 'Trickster' series!
I can't stand reading another sequel series... Alanna's daughter, indeed. It's like reading a fanfic, yet it's not a fanfic ><' Tamora should stop at Lioness Quartet, IMHO.

Harry Potter isn't good anymore ever since they started making the movies...
No, wait, what am i saying, the movies are bad, but the novels are good. But the movies made the story suck a little...somehow...don't know how -_-

Harry Potter is one of the few series that I have read all of the books that have come out so far and enjoyed them in the process. When the sixth came out, I got it first day at around noon and didn't sleep until I finished it at 2:30 AM Sunday morning.
MoloMowChow
Jan 20 2006, 12:36 AM
wow...hardcore reading...
I don't think it's good to read a novel ALL at once, else it would be fun rereading it, and you could just rent it from library and save money and still read it in that same amount of time then return it and still have that 40 bucks...
Raijinili
Jan 20 2006, 05:14 AM
I read The Da Vinci Code in about 3 hours and it still sucked.
Dr Strum
Jan 20 2006, 05:43 AM
Yes, the Da Vinci Code was lame.
And quite a few of the "facts" were mixed up...
Swifty-chan
Jan 20 2006, 02:00 PM
I finished 'Half-Blooded Prince' in 3 days, let the story sank, and flipped through the pages again.
I'm a fast reader~ XD... but I tend to miss some facts in the book. v_v'
MeleMewChew
Jan 20 2006, 02:03 PM
that's why your must take it slowly, even if it's so suspensful that you have to skim through the next few paragraphs just to find out what happens at the in...
Take things easy, and you'll enjoy it more.
Swifty-chan
Jan 20 2006, 02:05 PM
Ah well, doesn't really matter since I'd reread it.
The Song of Ice and Fire series rulez! X3

I'm reading Trickster, its not bad at all! I mean, yeah, Alanna's daughter wtf, but once you get past that its a pretty good read. Its not like the Lioness Quartet, but its still rather enjoyable.
Then again, I also enjoyed Protector of the Small. XD

Hm.. a few friends are reading the Trickster ones right now.. I'm reading it after her. I've tried the Magic Circle ones, but they sucked D:

Hmm.. My friend's making me read Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship Of the Ring.. I'm on chapter 2.. it begins so very SLOW. She won't shut up about how good it is though, so whatever, I'll get into it eventually.

*sigh* I finally finished The Scarlet Letter. I hated that bloody book.
But besides that, I am going to read two books on Fermat's Last Theorem. I wonder if any of you know what that is?
Dr Strum
Jan 30 2006, 09:44 PM
Why would you want to read a book about that fensti?
Let alone two books.

Feb 1 2006, 11:12 PM
Fermat's... a theorem which he proved, but didn't write down, that says that x^a + y^a =/= z^a where x, y, and z are positive integers?
Since I figured out that the only thing that stopped me from borrowing books in the first place was worry that they would keep me from doing schoolwork, and since i knew that I was already not doing schoolwork, I read something but forgot what.

Feb 2 2006, 12:57 PM
Yep. That's what it is. A guy figured it out, and I am reading to find out about how he did it.
And to answer the question that may arrive, no, I don't have a life. :p

I just finished Dragon Bones. It was... Interesting. It amused me, and the ending was cute XD. I may as well read the sequel and hope it amuses me as much as the first. It's an okay book, not one of my favorites, but good enough. It has it's funny parts.

I need to find a good book to read, lately I've just been reading magazines. I would like to read Monster by Frank Peretti, but I'm not paying $25 to read a book that I might read twice. Waiting until it comes out in a library.

Chainfire? As in Sword of Truth?
Sword of Truth is just an anti-Communist one-sided political commentary with a little sex thrown in and not enough actual MAGIC.

Finally finished The Wanting Seed now that finals are over.
Great book. The ending was a little... Oversentimental. But otherwise, awesome book, funny, mortifying, etc.
My sig happens to be from the book.
Next I'll read... Something. I'll decide this week sometime. Then I'll tell you all.

I'm reading "Of Mice and Men" for school right now. It's ok. Could be better. I'm just glad it's short and I don't have to write a paper on it.
