Lacrima Castle _ Books _ His Dark Materials-Philip Pullman

Posted by: MoloMowChow Jan 18 2006, 05:44 PM

I have just finished reading a triligy of books called His Dark Materials by an author called Philip Pullman. It was a very interesting story, and i couldn't get enough of it!

So...this thread is to discuss (for those people who read the book). I doubt anyone here would've read it other then me and my sister...-_-

But the books of His Dark Materials triligy is:

The Golden Compass
The Subtle Knife
The Amber Spyglass

These were very well written (and my sister almost cried at the end of the third book O_O) very touching...and awesome...

Anyways, if ANYONE here has ever read these books, discuss...

i totally doubt it -_-...

The triligy was indeed very interesting to read...i bet we're the only ones here that take time to read lengthy novels...

Wrong. Although, I just could never get into The Golden Compass so I didn't bother with the rest of the series.

That's when you're wrong~ *Etna grin*

But that was like, a looong time ago. I can't really remember the story... but I know it rulez~ X3

the one thing i don't understand about the story, is that she's supposed to be Eve, the mother of all, yet she goes back to living a normal life...

Posted by: Anubimon Jan 19 2006, 10:22 PM

I loved the books, hated the ending. It's like he came up with a bunch of stuff just to ensure that... yeah, I won't say more for spoilers.
Still, I enjoyed reading them. I want a subtle knife. ;_;

Posted by: Swifty-chan Jan 19 2006, 10:46 PM

It's probably because she reincarnate?

Posted by: MoloMowChow Jan 20 2006, 12:34 AM

To ensure people are to be apart...authors just HAVE to come up with a happy ending THEN seperate people from their friends...

Same in Lord of the Rings trilogy...Frodo had to leave in that boat, and in the latest book of Harry Potter (seventh book?), Dumbledore had...well...ceased to...you know...

Posted by: valkan Jan 20 2006, 06:21 AM

Frodo left because he was tired of Middle-Earth, and he wanted some hawt Elf lovin.

It's the sixth book, actually ^^ Draco and Snape rulez.

I think there's a short sequel for His Dark Materials. The book's call 'Lyra's Oxford', but the story's... nothing, really. Just a short story about Lyra, but they did mention Will(... the boy's name is Will, right?) once. Nothing special.

Posted by: MeleMewChew Jan 20 2006, 02:02 PM

yeah...i can't find Lyra's Oxford in my school library! >_<

So i'm gonna have to find time to go to chapters and search for it. Even if the sequel book isn't really anything special, a sequel is a sequel!

And yes, the sexy boy's name who hit on the fugly girl is Will! XD

Posted by: Swifty-chan Jan 20 2006, 02:08 PM

Hehe, I finish Lyra's Oxford at a bookstore in just one sitting. The book is soooo thin~ >_<'

Posted by: MeleMewChew Jan 20 2006, 02:20 PM

Really? I find that hard to believe it's a sequel to three "350 page" books...

btw, 350 is an estimated average...

Posted by: Swifty-chan Jan 20 2006, 02:23 PM

The sequel is like... a fanfic. They will not mention what happened in the past. Just a wee of Will and some of their old comrades, but that's all. Only a short mention.

The story's all about Lyra solving some mystery.

Posted by: MeleMewChew Jan 20 2006, 02:38 PM

Bah...soounds boring, but a sequel is still a sequel...

Posted by: Swifty-chan Jan 20 2006, 02:40 PM

You are a true fan indeed~ X3

I couldn't bring myself to sit through the first chapter, but it usually takes more than one chapter to get into a book. Ahwell, I'll borrow them from my friend. Since a lot of people enjoy the book, I may as well read it and see if I like it. Then again, I read it when I was.. in fifth grade? A while ago. I might find it easier to read now that I'm older XD

This is the first time I've necro'd, I think. Don't correct me if necro'd is wrong.

WTF.

I was just thinking about moving this to the new book forum yesterday, and I decided that since it's so old nobody would care about it. :( I hate you all. *moves*

Hey, I remember reading this series. SORRY RHIA SINCE I HAVE NOT READ DUNE I CAN NOT DRAW AN ACCURATE COMPARISON TO ANYTHING YOU'VE READ.

Oh yeah, armored bears.

Read them all. I liked Northern Lights ( SCREW AMERICA AND ITS "GOLDEN COMPASS" ) but the rest were kinda bland. Apparently you guys got the sex scene between Will and Lyra removed because it was too graphic and underage.

Posted by: DustyHaru Jan 14 2008, 10:48 PM

I couldn't read the Golden Compass for some reason...
I read "The Subtle Knife" for 9th Grade English
and then I read...the third...(was it amber-something?)

Everything sorta made sense in the end...kinda

*GASP*
How the hell are all these people...

Posted by: Liger Jan 22 2008, 03:22 PM

Well I finished the trilogy a couple of days ago. It was... meh. I didn't like it a whole lot, but it wasn't terrible. The first book was alright. The second and third bored me a bit.

And. WOAH HEY. I REMEMBER THIS TOPIC, AHAHA.

hmm? I didn't realize that it was called that originally. And I also didn't realize that they censored something from a book...
