Lacrima Castle _ Music _ THE MUSIC THING

Posted by: Rhiannon Jul 26 2010, 06:28 AM

Blah blah blah the idea is someone posts a song for people to listen to, and they say what they think of it. Next week, someone else does the same. Basically they take turns posting musics to show off to everyone. I don't intend to make multiple topics this time though because that takes effort. Walrus says every three or so people that want in, we'll get rid of a day between songs. Or something. BUT WE'RE NOT CHANGING WEEKLY UNTIL WE HAVE AT LEAST 6 PEOPLE. Also, if you don't post your song within like, two days of when you were supposed to post it, we're skipping you. THINGS COULD BE ARRANGED IF WE'RE WARNED OF AN ABSENCE IN ADVANCE THOUGH.

SO WHO'S IN+GIVE IDEAS.

Okay, so what this is is people take turns posting a song for everyone else to listen to/comment on. Right now it'll be four days between turns, and if we get more people that'll go down again etc. They follow the order of turns in this list. If someone wants to be added, they can post here or PM me. But anyone can comment on songs posted, the list is just for posting songs. Also, you don't need to write a whole essay or whatever on what you think of the song, but it'd be nice if you could say what you like/dislike about a song. AND POSTING LYRICS TO A SONG IS HELPFUL. Also, we'll skip your turn if you haven't posted your song within two days of when you were supposed to (unless you warned us or something, in which case we might mess with the turn order temporarily or something to prevent boredom while you're gone).

SO THE LIST:

Irysa
Walrus
DustyHaru
Yuka
Rhiannon

LIST BE UP, LET US BEGIN WITH CHRISSY.

ACTUALLY HE'S COOL WITH ME STARTING FIRST, SO ONE MOMENT.

OKAY LET'S GOOOOO http://www.fileden.com/files/2008/9/25/2115364/04%20Sieben.mp3

You don't get lyrics because finding English translations can be difficult when it's not Rammstein. SO LIEK ENJOY THOSE BAGPIPES, I KNOW I DO.

Sieben - Subway to Sally

From Rhia. This is the second metal/whatever German band I've heard, the other being one of Rhia's old entries, and it still sounds funny. The bagpipes don't really sound like bagpipes, which is kind of cool, and while I didn't really like the change in tempo for the chorus, the chime-y noises were nice. Also the lyrics were silly/disturbing. For this song, Rhia gets a...Sieben/10.

Sieben - Subway to Sally

I'm not going to post my very long reviews of songs this time around, because I think that killed it for me. This song sounds Scottish, which is kinda neat. I think it's the bagpipes.

Going with Walrus, 7/10.

Unrelated:

QUOTE
I didn't really like the change in tempo for the chorus

The tempo doesn't change. You're just expecting the percussion to always strike on a downbeat. Count it out, bagpipes starts' of phrases will still always fall on the first downbeat in a 4/4 measure.

Sieben - Subway to Sally

IT'S NOT REALLY THAT SCOTTISH AT ALL YOU'RE CRAZY. I HAVE TO AGREE WITH WALRUS THAT THE BAGPIPES SOUND A BIT IFFY (PROBABLY BEACUSE THEY'RE SYNTH) BUT MORE IN THE BAD WAY, LACK OF DRONES. THE GENERAL RIFF IS A BIT BORING FOR ME TOO. SONG SOUNDS BETTER AS SOMETHING TO LISTEN TO THE BACKGROUND THAN ACTUALLY PAY ATTENTION TO.

NOT REALLY BAD OR ANYTHING BUT WOULDN'T PICK IT OUT TO LISTEN TO.

6/10

It has... bagpipes? That's neat. I can somewhat rock out to it, even though I don't get what he's saying.

Welp there goes my 777

Not something I'd pick to listen to, but it's interesting; with bagpipes and whatnot.
THOUGH YEAH, I WOULD PROBABLY LIKE TO KNOW WHAT HE'S SINGING.

I think the vocals are Norwegian.

Ugress - Trigger 22

Like it a lot. Has a pretty nice atmosphere to it, vaguely reminds me of music from Homeworld, "spacey" and desolate. Also like how the song evolves the longer it goes on, incorporating more beats/synth and the like.

From le hawke. Can't really think of anything to say...It's not that bad, but I wouldn't listen to this unless I was walking down an unhappy corridor. 5/10.

Ugress - Trigger 22

DIDN'T REALLY LIKE IT. There's nothing really wrong with it, I guess, it just seemed boring to me. I'd probably like it in a game or a trippy scene in a movie, though...

Posted by: DustyHaru Aug 3 2010, 10:28 PM

I knew it sounded really familiar. Chord progression or whatever sounds like Tubular Bells 1 by Mike Oldfield (or at least the beginning)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t9A60e16SvM

Hip-hop sort of beat, and sort of creepy sounding lyrics and dissonant violins, but nothing too memorable or exciting.

Not what I'd normally expect from a dnb track (then again I'm not so well acquainted with tons of music genres). Doesn't seem to have much variation/progression but I didn't expect much.

Shinichi Osawa - Star Guitar (Brookes Brothers Remix)

I love this. Like you have no idea. I don't even know what I love about this, just that things all seem to fit together. It's quite glorious. Not like THE BEST THING EVER but it's near the upper echelons of music.

Shinichi Osawa - Star Guitar (Brookes Brothers Remix)

Kind of reminds me of various Umineko songs at the start. Not really sure why. Anyway, it's alright. It's kind of boring with how repetitive it is, but it sounds nice so I don't really mind that much.

Summertime Clothes - Animal Collective

I TOTALLY EXPECTED A SONG BY WALRUS COLLECTION. I LIKE THIS SONG, BUT IT'S TOTALLY STILL WEIRD. I think it's that synth or whatever running around in the background that makes it seem weird. But anyway, the chorusy part is calming, and makes me think of clouds floating around. I approve.

Shinichi Osawa - Star Guitar (Brookes Brothers Remix)
Feels like something you could play/find at a club and dance to until you drop. Hard. 7/10

Summertime Clothes - Animal Collective
Beginning oddly reminded me of FF6's Slam Shuffle. Other than that, feels as if they've smoked whatever the Beatles did and cooked up something pretty trippy. 8/10

Apparently, of the Post-hardocre genre, though I have no idea. I really like the Jonny Craig's voice not only as a part of Emarosa but as a solo artist as well. It was really hard trying to choose between his solo work, the sound of new Emarosa, or older scremo Emarosa (I had about five different songs in mind); because they can sound very different, due to his roots in soul and gospel music. Anyway, hope you enjoy. If not, eh.

The Weight of Love Blinds Eyes - Emarosa

The beginning of this song tricks me into thinking it will be boring and Generic McGenericson, but then the guy's voice comes and it's cool. I UNDERSTAND WHERE THE DUST IS COMING FROM. His voice is actually probably the main reason I like it, but whatever.

And then no one else likes the song.

"The Weight of Love Blinds Eyes" - Emarosa

From Dusty. Rhia might think it's "new and exciting", but you can't trust her as far as you can throw her. It doesn't do anything interesting, though it's not terrible by any means. 6/10

Posted by: Rhiannon Aug 18 2010, 09:00 AM

I never said it was new and exciting, just that I didn't expect a voice like that after hearing the start. :(

"The Weight of Love Blinds Eyes" - Emarosa

eh, pretty standard. Not that good, not that bad. Does what it's meant to do, I used to like post hardcore but I'm pretty much past it now so this is vaguely nostalgic I guess? Riffs are relatively boring but get the job done.

Animal Collection - Summertime Clothes

I kinda like the instrumentation, but at times they're too loud and cover up the vocals. It doesn't help that the vocals aren't that discernable to begin with, in my opinion.

5/10.

Emarosa - The Weight of Love Blinds Eyes

I think I liked the second half of the song more than the first half. It seemed to get a bit more drive and passion in it.

This guy's voice is kinda irritating, though.

"Frontier Aja - 終末の魔法使い"

its a nice song, i like the way it mixes a classic feeling with the beat. the rhythm is pretty fiery, no doubt this song can make someone feel something burning inside. well, it could be a little long, by that i mean, it could be less repetitive.

due to the loop 8.5/10

終末の魔法使い - Frontier Aja

The mood and tempo in the beginning of the beat reminds me of one of the FFTA songs (I'm pretty sure it's Unhideable Anxiety but w/e). Then I start thinking it sounds like Golden Sun or Soul Calibur :(

終末の魔法使い - Frontier Aja

I APPROVE OF THIS SONG. It sounds all dangerous and stuff at the start and then sounds dramatic like people are dying for their friends or something later. And maybe they are. That happens a lot in video games.

Frontier Aja - 終末の魔法使い

From Samauceka. It reminds me of Xenosaga, or situations similar to Xenosaga's boss battles. Like fighting T-ELOS or something. Except T-ELOS is a man-bot and has fifteen rapiers ready to punch you in the neck. 8/10.

I SUCK

Frontier Aja - 終末の魔法使い

Hmm. It's more interesting before the main part of the theme picks up, it gets a bit boring after that. Being a loop though it doesn't matter TOO hard I guess though. Pretty good arrange though, brass and woodwind get shafted a lot though.

8/10

Bandolero Comanchero - Franz Tornado and the "Mad Cow" Girls

Oh this fucking song. I swear I've heard this exact hook somewhere before but I can't remember where, (LOL EUROBEAT SOUNDING THE SAME? SOMEONE CALL THE FUCKING MUSIC POLICE).

I have literally nothing to say about this song. It's just typical eurobeat, nothing interesting besides the fact I recognize the hook.

6/10

"Naruhodou Ryuuichi - Objection!" - Metamorphosis Jazz Band

Heard this before. It's a pretty good retake on the original theme but I much prefer the oomph the original and other arranges have, it's a bit too laid back for the particular song imo, very groovy sax solo though.

MY TURN

http://www.fileden.com/files/2007/3/27/931714/03%20World%20is%20Mine%20-%20Hatsune%20Miku.mp3

Lyrics are pretty boring and if you care you suck and can find them yourself. Anyway this is a live version of an already pretty nice song from ryo, this whole concert pretty much kicked a lot of songs up another level by the great bass/percussion compared to the average niconico composer.

Posted by: Rhiannon Sep 11 2010, 01:43 AM

I don't know. Instrumentation is cool I guess, except the annoying vocals overtake everything whenever they show up. The rest of of the song is alright, I guess, though not particularly exciting... and I guess that's it.

YEAH, WAIT, I HATE THAT SCREECH NEAR THE END. IT'S NEVER GOOD TO PUT STUFF LIKE THAT IN SONGS.
