Lacrima Castle _ Other Games _ Favourite Final Fantasy

Posted by: Dr Sturm Feb 4 2006, 06:23 AM

What is your favorite (main) Final Fantasy and why?

I have to go with FF9. I just loved the characters and environments and the story was fairly interesting the entire way through (although the ending was pretty anti-climatic). It's probably the only Final Fantasy I've contemplated playing through again (not to mention the only one I've been interested in enough to finish). Quina pwnz j00.
Seconds would be VII and II.

Posted by: fensti Feb 4 2006, 12:19 PM

As of right now it's IV for me. I would say VII, but my stupid memory card is corrupt so I haven't been able to play it.

I plan on getting III, V, and VI when they come out.

WHo knows, maybe, just maybe VII will come out on DS or GBA, though DS seems more likely.

FFT

Posted by: Chardes Feb 6 2006, 01:02 PM

I'd still say my favourite is FF VI.

Posted by: Leyviur Feb 6 2006, 01:04 PM

IX > all

Posted by: Anubimon Feb 8 2006, 04:55 AM

VI for the win. Terra and Celes were great heroines, Kefka was a psycho villain, and it had the opera and Ultros.
IX is probably my second favorite.
VII was okay... But it's been too milked for my taste.

FF 9 Has my vote
The grafix are cool especially ARK
So there!!!

Posted by: Chaos Seraph Feb 12 2006, 07:16 PM

VIII. VII is probably better done, but I like VIII more. I love everything about it. Squall and Rinoa are my favourite FF couple, Squall has one of the most innovative weapons, a Gunblade, the junction system was really fun, and its graphics were a huge leap from VII. I also liked the fact that most of the story was really just a love story between Rinoa and Squall.

I'd have to disagree about that. FF8 had ungodly jaggies, while FF7's graphics were fairly smooth.

Posted by: Chaos Seraph Feb 12 2006, 08:09 PM

I was reffering mainly to the FMVs...

I know they were jaggy, but at least Squall looked remotly human. Cloud looked more like a box with dumb-bells for arms and legs, and 4 triangles for hair.

Posted by: Zeta Feb 12 2006, 08:13 PM

FFVI is my favorite, mainly because of Kefka. Can't wait for it to be ported to GBA.

I'd much prefer unrealistic graphics to jaggies.

Meh. The Graphics don't mean much really though, but they can be nice. I really liked the Opening and Ending to VIII, those 2 of my favourite FMVs from the whole series.

Posted by: Liger Feb 12 2006, 08:39 PM

FF9 remains my favorite. Quina=WIN

Posted by: Dr Sturm Feb 12 2006, 08:42 PM

YES!
Quina was awesome. Strong as hell too.
Frog Drop for the win.

Posted by: Liger Feb 12 2006, 08:44 PM

haha, yeah, Quina was awesome.

Posted by: Chaos Seraph Feb 12 2006, 08:47 PM

I hated Quina. ><

Quina Quen can only be called the Jar Jar Binks of Final Fantasy. The character is so corny and it's near impossible to picture anybody above ten years of age finding Quina Quen entertaining.
Final Fantasy IX does not get the respect that it deserves from many gamers and this character doesn't help it's reputation at all.

- prepares to get flamed -

Posted by: Dr Sturm Feb 12 2006, 08:50 PM

*flames hard*

Quina was one of the strongest characters in a game of obviously over powered characters. She's also has some hilarious scenes.

"Is it dead...?"

Posted by: Chaos Seraph Feb 12 2006, 08:56 PM

I really don't find her funny. At all. It ( yes, it, we don't get a gender definition ) talks about food too much too. IX is a good game, but some of the characters I just find wierd. Like Kuja. Why does he have to wear a freaking THONG?!?!
D=

Quina goes under my list of worst FF characters, which include: Cait Stih, Edward, Yuna ( X-2 ) and Faris.

Posted by: Dr Sturm Feb 12 2006, 09:01 PM

Cait Sith was the best character in FF7. Besides Weapon at least.

But anyways, Quina is a girl; she marries Vivi. And they have children.
And I thought Kuja was pretty hawt in that thong.

Posted by: Chaos Seraph Feb 12 2006, 09:13 PM

Cait Sith? Best character? O__O

Wow.

Reeve is a great character, but Cait just sucks.

As for Quina, they did? O.o
I think I need to replay. Vivi shouldn't get stuck with Quina. He's way cooler than that.

My favourite characters from Final Fantasy are Squall Leonhart, Vincent Valentine ( Dirge of Cerberus is going to rawk. ) Sephiroth, Tifa Lockheart, Rinoa Heartilly, Auron, Vivi and Cloud Strife.

Though Onion Knight, Garnet, Cid ( IV ) and Terra are pretty good too I must say.

You gotta be kidding me. Equip Yuna (X-2) with a Catnip, lower her HP and make her use Trigger Happy earns you a quick win for last bosses!

... That's my bro's tactic.

Posted by: Chaos Seraph Feb 12 2006, 10:50 PM

I'm not talking about Battle proess. I'm talking about the characters themselves. Yuna's personality got COMPLETELY overwritten in X-2, the whole game was based of sex appeal, and it RUINED X's ending.

And X-2's final boss is pathetically easy.

Posted by: Nanashi Feb 12 2006, 11:13 PM

VI...
The story...
And it was just awesome...

Ever play the MegaMan Zero games? XD

I like Quina, battle and personality-wise. Her method of learning Blue Magic is a lot better than other Blue Mages. Eating the enemy when its HP is low beats having to wait for the attack to hit you. The only real gripe I have is the random damage her normal attacks do.

Posted by: Nanashi Feb 13 2006, 01:00 AM

Personally, i thought the thong was sexy

With Quistis you just had to either mug them or beat them. Then use the item. Hell, you could even refine to get the ones you needed.

Shockwave Pulsar...

Yes I have played Megaman Zero. Damn near impossible they are. You die in about 5 seconds if you don't know what you're doing. I guess all that time playing old Megaman games played off. x3

Posted by: regruBgniK Feb 20 2006, 10:01 PM

Kuja = Sexy

Cait Sith > You

I was torn between VI and VII, but when with VII just cuz it's better. =P *stares at copy of VIII* Ugh, I couldn't stand the first five hours..... so bleh.

VII is being milked tooooo much, the damn things teats are going to fall off. But if the milk if good quality, why complain?

I'm in the middle of a playthrough of VI and VII right now. XD Just got the Falcon in VI, and just watched the very sad scene at the end of Disc one in VII.

WHEEEEE. *goes back to playing*

I am a deprived child of life.

I have only played four real Final Fantasy Games.

It was between VII and Tactics and...well...yeah. VII.

Posted by: Raijinili Feb 21 2006, 09:39 PM

I played FF1 on Dawn of Souls, FFT, FFTA, and part of FF8.

Posted by: Tonfa Feb 22 2006, 04:07 PM

Might as well do an inequality chain using main series FFs. Because I'm bored.

X-2 (not a typo) > 7 > 5 = X > 8 > 2 = 9 > 6 > 4 > 1

...yes. X-2 is indeed my favorite FF game, the battle system just wins that much. It could have been somewhat more challenging though. I also really liked the aspect of actually seeing what happens to the world after you save it in X. The mostly free choice of what order to do things in and what sidequests to do was awesome, too. Overall, the game was simply really, really fun to play, and that's what counts.

Thought of commenting on the rest, but I'm not bored enough for that.

Posted by: Malice Feb 25 2006, 12:56 AM

IV. Eh.. I was too boring and II, I didn't get.

Posted by: Yourself Mar 1 2006, 06:05 AM

I would say FFT, one of the best stories I've ever seen. Needed better translating though.

*holds flame shield in a cautious stance*

Posted by: Dr Sturm Mar 1 2006, 01:45 PM

Why would anyone flame you for that? FFT did have a pretty poor translation.
But this poll is about the main series FF games.

Posted by: chilly Mar 1 2006, 09:14 PM

I don't really care for Final Fantasy games, but I would have to say X-2 since that's the only one I've played.

Posted by: Vahn Jul 5 2010, 06:15 AM

There is never any evidence Quina and Vivi stay together, although they do hook up in Condo Petie. And the general consensus on the channel is Quina is, in fact, a girl. Also 9 is the best, and can only be compared to Tactics in awesomeness.

Also, do your favorite FF characters still stand Asaph?

Posted by: DustyHaru Jul 5 2010, 01:59 PM

I've only just realized recently I have NEVER finished a Final Fantasy Game.

But so far it probably goes something like this (as I've gone to varying amounts of completion)

XI (3rd disk) > IV (Chasing Kain) > VI(found the moogles) > VII(found Vincent?) > III(Crystal Tower, grinding) > I(erm, forget)

I did play V but I didn't particularly enjoy it. :\

Posted by: Atma Jul 5 2010, 02:07 PM

Tactics > 6 > 9 > 5 > 3 > 4> 1 > My garbage bin> Used maxi pads> 2> 8> X > X-2 > FFTA = A2 > 7

Haven't played 11 (it's an MMO, go away) and haven't played 13 so I'll be fair and reserve judgment on those for later.

I apologize for nothing in these ranks.

I hardly ever finish them. Most of the older ones end up making me bored. That, or I can't play them due to varous circumstances and when I can I've lost interest. I've beaten I, III, and VII-X. And Tactics.

not really, you can ignore everything i ever said anywhere before late 2008

honestly I don't really think I have any preference for any ff anymore. I still think VIII is overhated (lol), but it's really not that good of game.

Posted by: CardBoardBox Jul 10 2010, 03:42 AM

By default I have to say FFVII because its the only one I've ever bought. I was completely obsessed with it then but now I'm not too interested in the series. I'm finding myself prefering Dragon Quest when I want an RPG.

Posted by: WhiteKnight Jul 11 2010, 06:30 PM

Ehh... VII. I recently played through it, so I don't have nostalgia goggles up the wazoo making it cooler in my mind than I really thought it was.

VI was nice, but I didn't enjoy the WoR as much as I enjoyed the WoB.

IV DS, if that counts, comes close to VII in enjoyment, but the lack of a real postgame(two semitough fights) kinda lowers my opinion of it. Augments are nice, though.

XIII... ehhhh... well, I enjoyed it until I beat it, but now there's alot of grinding before I can even touch an Adamantoise.

The little I played of V reminded me of FFT, but I can't form an opinion.

I don't even want to touch III.

I and II were okay.

I've seen some of X and was interested, don't care for XI, and XII seems to be the opposite of XIII while remaining superficially similar. I would probably enjoy it just as much.

My true favorite, however, is FFT, but since it isn't on this list, I have to go with VII.

Should I find the time and money, I'll try out VIII and IX.

FFT: about equal to FF7
both>everything else.
