You will remember this guy.

So a 20 year-old man finds a girl at night and invites her to his place. He asks her age; she says, "Does it matter?" Then they proceed to have intercourse. Twice.

The next day the police finds the girl where the man found her last night, and she told them what happened. Not being very cooperative with the inquiry, the police tracks down Mr. Edgecombe, the same man who had sex with the girl twice. He admits what had happened last night and is charged accordingly.

Court time. Justice Roderick Evans hears the case. The man had had intercourse with a 10 year old girl. The defendant then becomes "visibly traumatised" as he now knows her true age. At the end of the hearing, the judge then gives his sentence. What is his condition? It sure wasn't prison.

The judge's reason? Mr. Edgecombe believed the girl was 16.

He was later released from police custody 18 months later.

WHAT THE FUCK.

Another case with the same older-man-has-sex-with-young-girl. 25 year-old man rapes a 10 year old. The offender could have gotten a lifetime prison ruling under a normal judge. But he didn't. Reason?

“Did she look 10? Certainly not. She looked 16.”

HE STILL RAPED HER.

What a faggot. The justice system is not going to go anywhere with this guy around.

Also, there was a case where a pedo could be let off if he bought his 6 year-old victim a bike. Aww, how cute. I bet he did it, too.

... Their Judicial system needs to fire everyone there and tighten the conditions to become a judge. Honestly, these judges are either
A) retarded, or
B) gullible.

You kind of have to look at the first case in various perspectives to get where I'm going at, but honestly, in the first case, I think it was right to let the man go. As for the second case, what the hell were the judges thinking.

There is no way you can mistake a 10 year-old for a 16 year-old. The fact that the man didn't care when she said "Does it matter?" and proceeded to fuck her anyway puts dirt on his statement saying he believed to have had a 16 year old (or older) partner.

You're an idiot for thinking that.

You realize her response made it seem as if she was older than she really was. You can't blame the man for the girl's stupidity.

Oi, no name calling. Consider this a verbal warning. You're already high on your warnings, Sauce.

Second, this will always happen. There are slips in the Judicial System and a lot of blunders. Pedophiles are serious business and all, but things like this happen because of many different factors. Corruption, just plain suckitude, whatever.

Sorry, but I still cannot believe it. I've never known or seen a child who is a lot younger than they look.

There's one thing that will always bug me, and that's clarity. But regardless, yes, that's a good point.

First off, NEVER EVER EVER USE A FREAKING TABLOID NEWSPAPER AS A SOURCE.

You don't live here.

I'm serious, every preteen chav tries their absolute best to look like they're 18 or something. Kids insist they're "going out" at about 12. "Oh my god you pulled him?" isn't exactly the least common phrase you can expect of girls. Even if they're only joking.

There was a girl who had consensual sex and decided to keep her kid at 14 ( I think, it may have been younger ) and her mother was "proud of her". Her daughter smokes, drinks, and was having frequent sex with her 16 year old boyfriend.

I mean, hell, that girl's had sex already. If the judge thought she looked to be 16 too...

10 is seriously extreme though.

Its not justified, and I feel a bit disgusted to have this kind of judicial system so close to mine. At the very least, he's on the sex offenders list. If the guy really truly honestly downright believed in his heart she was 16, its still an offence, but perhaps they could see about parole slightly earlier than usual if he had good behaviour?

Wasn't there some TV program about this kind of stuff in America?

Letting the first guy go seems okay for me... It doesn't seem the girl was raped, and if even the judge thought she looked like 16... Having sex with a 10-year old is very wrong though, but if he didn't know she was that young...

As for the second, WTF? Man should be locked, judge should be fired.

Considering the lack of details in the one you posted, it seems that the girl didn't object, which doesn't make it rape. In fact the girl played it off like she was some teenage slut. So while the guy is a sicko, he is not necessarily legally culpable - mostly. That's law for you.

Um. Having sex with a minor is counted as rape here, even if they agree. Ever heard of Statutory rape?

I think the first guy should be put in prison. Maybe not necessarily for life, but still...

As for the second guy, life or the death penalty.

Statutory rape and rape are two different things.

Statutory rape is still a crime, so I don't know where you're coming from with "he is not necessarily legally culpable"

He broke the law.

What you're saying is the equivalant of "shoplifting is the same as murder."

One's a crime only in the loosest sense of the word. The other is a felony.
