By the way, looking at these names, it should be obvious why Atlus USA hasn't announced Kitten for localization yet. They have no fucking idea if it's possible to fit all these long names in the game. Hell, even the Japanese version had to abbreviate some middle names/patronymics.

Wow those ARE some long names... They'd either have to use a really small font or serious change around the text size box... Things... Or just change the names.

Somebody on Product Team A knows French.
Or Atlus was stupid and gave them a list of names that Atlus wouldn't be able to fit in the game.

They probably googled "completely random names in random European languages".

Even though they do seem to focus on French and German primarily. And pseudo-German.

Too bad Pamela either doesn't have a last name or it's a mystery... Would be nice if we knew the full names of more then just a handful of characters from YU.

They don't necessarily have names beyond their first. They didn't always back then. Particularly not peasants.

Well true. So for someone like say... Milanor it'd make sense... Cruz possibly. But someone like Russel? Durant?

I've been assuming Rosary and Roswell's last names based on their houses but that's just assuming...

Just because they hold prestigious positions doesn't mean they're going to have last names. They could have easily gotten there from the same poor spot that Milanor was at. Roswell/Rosary's last names being the name of their house, that's basically what last names are.

Rosary Esmeralda has an odd sound to it. Maybe because I usually associate Esmeralda as a first name so Rosary's name is basically two first names... Roswell Branthese (Branthese was his house I think?) sounds more... name-ish.

I guess I hadn't taken that into account. Russel just struck me as an important-looking person. I'm not very knowledgeable about last names and stuff so I'll take your word for it.

Second names began to develop when more and more people moved to the cities in the middle ages. When you lived in a small village where everyone knew each other, you wouldn't need them. But in such collections of people often sharing a first name, you'd need to start expanding their names so you could tell them apart.
Early second names usually came from the job or position a family had. Here in Germany for example, very common last names are "Müller" (miller), "Bäcker" (baker) or "Bauer" (farmer), all of which were the most common jobs back then of course.
