Lacrima Castle _ Other Sting Games _ Baroque!

Posted by: Rhiannon Mar 11 2007, 02:52 AM

We need a thread about Baroque. I mean, with all of the Sting fans around here, there must be SOMEONE interested in it, right? I am! It disturbs me and interests me but I know nothing about it!

So, let us talk about the PS2 remake, Baroque Shooting, Baroque Typing, and anything else Baroque!

Posted by: Dr Sturm Mar 11 2007, 02:56 AM

Advanced Angel and Iraiza are hawt.

...

AND, UH, THE MUSIC SOUNDS GREAT
THEY BETTER RERELEASE THE SOUNDTRACK WITH THE GAME

Anyways, for more English informations on Baroque: http://hg101.classicgaming.gamespy.com/sting/sting2.htm

Posted by: Fujibayashi Suzu Mar 11 2007, 03:12 AM

Thanks for the link
Wow. That's uhm... Odd. Unique? Something like that. I probably wouldn't get it, I'm not a fan of anything horror-related (I get scared easily ok? ._.).

Plus I'm totally trying to get games that have two characters, male and female. Or have female leads. And well, uh, Izuna is enough rogue-like gaming for me for a while...

QUOTE

Someone didn't read. There ARE male and female characters.
Sure, the two lead females are trying to kill you for some unknown reason(s), but they are there.

Posted by: Chaos Seraph Mar 11 2007, 03:38 AM

That actually looks pretty cool. But the last First Person RPG I played ( Ring ) was exceedingly frustrating. I hope this works out better.

Those flying baby things remind me of those Watchers from Drakengard. ):

Posted by: Dr Sturm Mar 11 2007, 03:41 AM

The PS2 remake will not be first person.

Posted by: Chaos Seraph Mar 11 2007, 03:44 AM

I just read that. >_<

I'm sorry.

Posted by: Fujibayashi Suzu Mar 11 2007, 05:15 AM

I mean characters you PLAY, not ones who you interact with. Ones you actually control. I should've been more specific.

Posted by: Dr Sturm Mar 11 2007, 05:32 AM

Then there are very few games like that.
I bid you good luck.

A preorder bonus was announced for Baroque: Tarot cards.

Posted by: Dr Sturm Apr 16 2007, 03:20 AM

Opening movie was posted on Sting's website today.

Posted by: SyphonVectorman Apr 16 2007, 12:15 PM

Yeah, I read that article a few months back (Like two?), and that was the article that introduced me to Yggdra. =P

Anywho, the game does look interesting. If I can ever get myself to buy Jap PS2 games someday then I should go check it out.

Posted by: RuikiaKarine Apr 16 2007, 07:20 PM

ohhh, cool @@
i wait for the game , and the movie music are cool . i like =o
i waiting for more deatils about the game =o

Sting released "two" new videos, today. Including game play footage.

Posted by: Dr Sturm May 11 2007, 01:29 AM

Dammit. The fucking game's been CERO'd already (B, the same as RiviPSP), so, Sting, give us a fucking release date already.

Posted by: Dr Sturm May 18 2007, 02:31 AM

Finally Sting puts up the System page.
Notes of interest:
-The Nerve Tower changes every time you enter it, die, etc. EG, random dungeon.
-You can ignore the story. You can so rudely leave while people are talking to you or during story events if you so choose.
-Fighting, talking, moving, everything affects the story. Even dying.
-Bringing up death, dying is not a game over. Death affects the story, and changes the tower.
-You can make items. Combine items to create new ones.
-There's an extra contents sort of thing. Including a Scene List, Event List, Item List, Baroque List and Sound Test. I have no idea what the Baroque List is, Sound Test and Item List should be obvious. From the screens, it seems the Scene List contains various dialogue scenes you have seen, Event List contains story scenes you have seen. Could be wrong, though.
-It also seems you can customize your control scheme.

Posted by: Sauce XIV May 18 2007, 02:53 AM

Sounds like fun.

Posted by: slash89slash May 18 2007, 04:48 PM

“If atonement is what you seek, then reprove the fallen truth – bearing the weight of your sin and your lost wing.”

Is the main character a wingless angel or something? Well, angel or not, he does seem to able to equip imitation wings for some reason.

Posted by: Feral Phoenix May 21 2007, 05:26 PM

:> This game looks interesting. And I really wanna check it out.

Has any Baroque stuff crossed the great divide of oceans?

Posted by: Dr Sturm May 21 2007, 05:31 PM

No. The Saturn and PSX originals, as well as the spinoffs all stayed in Japan.

Posted by: Feral Phoenix May 21 2007, 05:33 PM

Awww. That's too bad.

...

I need imports. Or a computer that can handle a rom.

Posted by: Dr Sturm May 21 2007, 05:34 PM

There will not be any ROMs of Baroque, for it has always been on disc media.

Posted by: Dr Sturm May 25 2007, 02:30 AM

http://www.sting.co.jp/baroque/ps2/special/ipod/index.htm

The URL is info enough, because the page itself sure doesn't say much.
It dosn't say anything except that ten random people who fill out the questionnaire that comes with Baroque will win a 2GB iPod Nano. I don't know. We still have no release date.

Posted by: Raijinili May 26 2007, 04:05 AM

Damn, I was thinking they would put Baroque on the iPod. Even though that would be horrible.

Posted by: Dr Sturm May 26 2007, 04:07 AM

If they do anything, I would bet the soundtrack. Or maybe a custom engraving; that would explain the seemingly unrelated quotation.

Posted by: Dr Sturm Jun 4 2007, 11:58 PM

Twenty-four-day warning!
Sting announced today that they're releasing Baroque on the 28th of June.

Posted by: Azarethian Titan Jun 8 2007, 02:57 PM

Haha... this is pretty cool.... I've watched the video... creepy... but I like. :P It;s a bummer I can't afford it though... :/

Posted by: jcdietz03 Jul 14 2007, 10:01 PM

How about the Gameplay. Did anyone play the original version? What is it like?

From what info I could find, the original was on the PS1. It's played from first person. Appearently, you move very slow, making it almost impossible to dodge enemy attacks. And you also couldn't see the character you were playing with (even in cut-scenes).

I think this remake is going to be so much better. It's third person (making it easier to see where and by how many you are being attacked), you move a lot faster, the graphics are better, etc. etc.

Posted by: Sauce XIV Jul 19 2007, 05:49 PM

The original was on the SEGA Dreamcast. Saturn.

Release date is 03/18/08. I preordered. Anyone else?

Posted by: aerozero Jan 24 2008, 05:50 AM

I was going to preorder, but I'm getting a different game instead.

Baroque will have to wait.

Posted by: The Angel of Ruin Jan 24 2008, 05:49 PM

I would pre-order, but Brawl comes first

Posted by: Irysa Feb 11 2008, 04:49 PM

Pirating.

Posted by: H. Tsukiyono Feb 12 2008, 04:00 AM

I haven't been able to get to a game shop to preorder. ._.;; So I'm doing that as soon as I get the chance.

... By the way, am I just weird, or has anyone seen the rather interesting resemblance of the nameless protagonist and Archangel to a certain pair of Grim Angels? Maybe it's just me. >>

Posted by: Rhiannon Feb 12 2008, 04:20 AM

You're not weird. When I first saw the art for the protagonist, I thought: "Wow, he could totally be Ein. And he'd actually match the colors of Ein's sprite more than Ein does!"

Posted by: regruBgniK Feb 18 2008, 10:44 PM

I played a few hours of the game, it's damn awful. Sting makes a lot of piece of shit games, but this take the cake.

Posted by: Lucho Feb 19 2008, 12:16 AM

Really?

Ah well, I wasn't expecting much from an Action RPG.

Posted by: aerozero Feb 19 2008, 05:19 AM

The trailers looked pretty cool though, oh well, I was going to wait a while before I picked this up.

What? I played the game and found it sucked. It's a dungeon crawler that punishes you for dungeon crawling, it's a waste.

The combat is repetitive and slow as well.

In other words, it discourages grinding. Oh god, no!

Hey, RE4 had repetitive combat that was slow as hell. But you seem to like that.

Posted by: P.P.A. Mar 19 2008, 09:56 PM

Is the game enjoyable in Japanese? Because I'm interested in the Saturn version (as I've become quite a segafag), but there's not much point in getting it if I can't get far without being able to understand a word.

Posted by: Yuka Mar 20 2008, 12:16 AM

Emulate it and try it for yourself, you buyfag.

Posted by: H. Tsukiyono Apr 5 2008, 10:00 PM

The game's great, in my opinion, except that I can't read all of it and I keep blowing myself up with stupid things like exploding bones. Well, hello.

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

So I think maybe the mechanics could be tweaked a teeny tiny bit, like with camera control (maybe it's just me, but it feels a little awkward), and other than that it would be perfect if only the protagonist could stop blowing himself up. ._.;; I've already died eight times.

All because I decided I'd rather not wait for the American release and went and got a Japanese copy. >> Thus my current predicament. Maybe I won't die seven times before I actually get to the bottom of the tower in the American version, since I'll have already done that in the Japanese version. XD

Posted by: Hayate Apr 7 2008, 01:38 AM

Oh, THAT'S what you were saying. I thought you were saying he kept throwing up. So I just figured he ate too many rotten hearts. XDD

Well, great job, Ein --er, Protagonist.

Posted by: H. Tsukiyono Apr 7 2008, 04:38 AM

I think the rotten hearts just give him a stomach ache. I've never eaten one, I just saved them for the Cursebringer Angel and tossed them in. Oh look, they're not rotten anymore! *chomp* *VT recovery!*

There's this weird kind of bone that if you eat it it'll make you bleed. Doesn't make you do anything else other than leave a splotch of purple blood on the floor--I can't remember if it even heals you. Weird stuff. If you toss a couple of those to the Cursebringer Angel, though, sometimes you get good stuff. Like nice equipment, because +5 attack is always an improvement over +2 or +3.

Posted by: Hayate Apr 10 2008, 03:20 AM

Um, wow. Bleeding bones. I'll have to remember that one. Just so I can eat one and run around going "Look, I'm bleeding and I'm perfectly fine!" XP

That said, maybe the Meta-beings are like sharks. Can they smell the blood and come rushing to you? >> Like the Pied Piper, except... not.

Posted by: vahn14 Apr 12 2008, 11:55 PM

I picked it up yesterday, but wasn't able to play it. I'm gonna start tonight.

Posted by: Irysa Apr 16 2008, 01:57 AM

Baroque is a great twist on the Roguelike genre, and so far, I've been enjoying it a lot. Though I'm expecting a lot of negative criticism to stem about it unless you actually LIKE Roguelikes, since they are rather niche.

Regardless, there is a lot of variety, the real time system makes it a bit more dynamic, the music's good, and it knows how to be creepy here and there. It's not really as Suvival Horror esque as the original, but it's a great game if you want something new out of a Roguelike.

It's sweat, isn't it? If we're thinking of the same bone, it does heal you.

Posted by: H. Tsukiyono Apr 16 2008, 03:35 AM

Maybe it is. ._.;; Hm.

Purple sweat? That's so... I don't know. weird. But that's probably it. I couldn't read the names since I was playing a Japanese version. >>

Anyone thinking about getting this?

It might have art after all.

http://www.sting.co.jp/baroque/wii/sp/index.htm

And this...definetly does.

Honestly, I might end up buying these. I like the game that much, I'd buy it if it came out over here dammit. :\

Posted by: Irysa Apr 18 2008, 05:22 AM

O.k yeah, I am buying them.

I'm ordering the Complete Guide today. Artbook when it comes out.

I'll scan them in and upload when they come in.

I won't get to play Ninja Gaiden 2 now, but eh.

Posted by: Astraea Apr 28 2008, 11:24 PM

Uh, no matter how much I want to play this I can't cause I don't have the console...

Posted by: H. Tsukiyono Apr 29 2008, 12:05 AM

Baroque's on two different consoles. You don't have a PS2 or a Wii? (I mean, the Wii I sort of get, but the PS2 is old enough that the price ought to have dropped somewhat...)

Posted by: Yuka May 19 2008, 03:02 AM

Anyone know how to get the "Murdered by the Sentry Angel" event? Supposedly you have to attack him until he kills you, but how long is that supposed to take? Hayate and I both tried and he's not lost his patience yet...

That depends on whether you're talking about an ending to the plot or just an ending as in "Boom! Protagonist is dead. Save?"

If you're looking for a plot ending, going through the tower however many times isn't really going to make a difference. You have to trigger certain tower-expanding events and then clear the tower. (Whatever you do, if you wind up with, say, a weird Sephirah-that-is-likely-one-of-a-kind, DON'T die while carrying it. You realize what kind of nuisance it would be to clear the game if you lose it, right?--although you could always reload the file and try again. But that's tedious.)

Wow, that is a complete fail on my part.

Finally got the true ending for Baroque, but one thing pisses me off, the game is supposed to have MULTIPLE endings (says so on the English box), but as far as I can tell, there is only the one final ending. Where is the ending where I decide to reshape the world?
