Lacrima Castle _ Dept. Heaven _ Similarties in Dept. Heaven

Posted by: jcdietz03 Jul 5 2009, 03:36 AM

Try and identify the similarities and differences in the Dept. Heaven games.

Action RPG:
KitN has more action elements than Yggdra Union has more action elements than Riviera.

Retry:
You can retry if you lose.

Skill Attacks:
Each game has some version of something called a skill attack. That isn't too surprising because many RPG feature skill attacks (they're not always called that though). Rivera has "Over Skill," Yggdra has "Card Skill," and KitN has "Skill Attack."

Items:
Some of the items are recycled between the games.

Enemies:
Some enemies are recycled between the games. Skeleton in particular appears in all three; Witch, Knight, Slime, Spider, and Troll appear in both Riviera and KitN. Catapults appear in Yggdra Union and KitN.

Enemy behavior:
Enemies in all three games have a RAGE mode in which they are more powerful. In the first two games, enemies have a MAX mode where their power is at max.

Something Angelic:
Riviera has Archangel. It makes many references to "the gods."
The final boss in Yggdra is

A couple of characters in KitN are mentioned as being Angelic.

Main Character is a girl:
Ein is a girl.
So is Yggdra and Maria is too. You might think Wilmgard is the main character, so this might not be true for KitN.

MOST of the items are recycled between the games.

And Maria is not the main character of Kitten.

There are a few running locations as well.

Heaven's Gate: beginning of Riviera and ending of Yggdra Union.
Asgard: Mentioned in all three
Underworld: I think it was mentioned in Riviera, can't remember anything of it in Yggdra Union. Heavily mentioned in Knights in the Nightmare
Riviera: Setting of Riviera and is mentioned a couple times in Knights in the Nightmare

I don't think you two should be in this thread until you've both cleared Kitten.

I don't think you two should be in this thread until you've both cleared Kitten.

By "clear," do you mean finish both routes, or see every ending?

Interpret it as you will.

Posted by: blue grim angel Jul 5 2009, 11:25 PM

Well I've already finished the red route, but I'm still working on the blue.

Say Sturm, how much of the game have you finished?

Posted by: Yuka Jul 6 2009, 12:39 AM

I don't know if Sturm has finished the game yet or not, but even if he hasn't, I still think he's more qualified on this subject than you are.

Posted by: blue grim angel Jul 6 2009, 03:05 AM

I understand, I'm just saying that "clearing the game" shouldn't be the only thing needed to prove your knowledge of the series. I'm probably not as good with this as Sturm would be, though I at least wanna add something. Who knows, this might end up being a section on the site some day.

Don't think this really needs to be spoiler marked, but just in case.

Elements are shared.
The term Break Out too.

That other thread reminds me...
The trope http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/AbusivePrecursors applies to all Dept. Heaven games.

Riviera:

Yggdra Union:

Knights in the Nightmare:

The idea of multiple races comes into play in all the games. It's most pronounced in KitN.
Riviera has the sprites, and arcs.
Yggdra Union has the undines.
Knights in the Nightmare has multiple races. The tiamats play a role in the story.
