So non-Japanese Asian music is not entertaining?
You can't call all Japanese-language music "J-pop". There's also J-rock, and traditional.

There's alot more J-music out there that does not have anything to do with anime
I like Oranges & Lemons. A lot.
They're anime musickers.
I listen to several of the Pillows and Asian Kung-Fu Generation.

asian kung fu generation is really the only j-pop i can listen to and maybe the pillows

not really a fan of boy bands or rock music much.
I mostly listen to chinese music.
BoA is Korean, and she sings in Chinese, Japanese, and Korean.
Her Chinese isn't that good (listened to a song three times before I realized it was in Chinese), and I've been told that her Japanese isn't that good either. Ditto for her Korean :/
And her English...
Larc En Ciel are probably my favorite Japanese band.

It's a duo that sang for a few anime. Azumanga Daioh, Scrapped Princess, Fushigi Yuugi, and a few more as Heart of Air.

Redemption - Gackt
Some of his songs suck, some of them are pretty good. This is one of my favourites thus far.
My favorite Japanese band is probably the pillows. Some of their songs just make you want to scream the lyrics out loud, but if I suddenly yelled "I CAN FEEL THAT HYBRID RAINBOW" then I think people would think I was insane.
