Lacrima Castle _ Yggdra Union _ YU - PsP

Posted by: Chaos Seraph Oct 3 2007, 12:30 PM

Its that time of year again. Sting are porting YU to the Playstation Portable.

New cutscenes look good, and I'm speculating on voice acting.

Dammit, why can't they make a new game instead? YZ doesn't have enough info.

Posted by: Chaos Seraph Oct 3 2007, 01:23 PM

Hey wait, this might be YZ related.

After a bit of discussion in the channel, there appears to be some differences. I figured it'd spark some discussion.

Lastly, one detail which strikes me is what Sting will do for the BGMs. Will they pull off what they did in RiviPSP and just take it from the PAC+ or will they yet again rearrange it? And of course, voice acting! Tons of funnies to be had if that were to happen.

Posted by: P.P.A. Oct 3 2007, 04:11 PM

:O

I should finish the GBA version now...

Also those cutscenes look pretty sexy.

Posted by: Sauce XIV Oct 3 2007, 08:25 PM

Fuck you Sting, fuck you.

Although I have to admit that new Yggdra model looks really awesome.

Looks to be scheduled to be released on the 24th of January next year.

Posted by: Liger Oct 3 2007, 09:20 PM

Waah! That looks pretty sweet ):

Posted by: Rhiannon Oct 3 2007, 10:29 PM

Neat. :O

Chef, that card is Banish. OR AT LEAST IT SAYS IT'S BANISH. IS IT A CRAZY THOUGHT THAT THEY CHANGED HOW THE CARD SKILLS LOOKED SLIGHTLY? I know I already told you, but I have to humiliate you in public!

Posted by: ChefMKT Oct 3 2007, 11:09 PM

My original thought WAS Banish! But then Enzd was like "But it can't be!" So I blame Enzd!

Posted by: Marionette Oct 4 2007, 12:24 AM

Wow, love the cutscenes. XD;; Geez, Sting! Way to totally port everything but atleast they add new things--?!

Posted by: Enexodia Forbiddensia Oct 4 2007, 01:45 AM

Damn it Sting! You are really making me buy a PSP X.X

Awww!!! I want those!!!

Posted by: Suzu Fujibayashi Oct 4 2007, 02:55 AM

I think a part of me just died.
Again.

Dammit. Make a PSP emulator already people of the interwebz!

EDIT:
The mystery of that one art on the YZ blog is shown in those pictures.
I have the feeling YZ might just be the YU remake for the PSP now.

EDIT2:
I demand DS remakes. I said since PSP came out I'd rather break my hands then ever touch a PSP... Still going strong!
And srly. Unless this has like... Hawt Yggdra x Rosary secks... Not worth breaking my hands.

Posted by: Sauce XIV Oct 4 2007, 03:09 AM

There's one in early development.

Posted by: Suzu Fujibayashi Oct 4 2007, 03:18 AM

Cooooool.
Yes. I'm on cheap... Well, you know.

Posted by: Raijinili Oct 4 2007, 05:04 AM

I DID NOT EXPECT THIS.

But I was the one constantly bringing up the possibility of them changing the art for a card :( WHY DO YOU DO THIS TO ME

I really need to know who that scythe-wielding woman is. Really.

Posted by: Xel Oct 4 2007, 07:31 PM

There appears to be... animated... CGs...

Posted by: Chaos Seraph Oct 4 2007, 07:48 PM

Fatimitsu confirmed an animated opening sequence.

Posted by: aerozero Oct 5 2007, 01:35 AM

I wish the Riviera CGs were animated...

Posted by: Suzu Fujibayashi Oct 5 2007, 01:52 AM

I assumed animated given how bright the CGs looked... They had a 3D feel to them. The PSP is quickly turning into the vulture of gaming systems... Living off ports of everyone elses good games.

Posted by: Sauce XIV Oct 5 2007, 02:01 AM

That's because no one is able to make any good originals for PSP.

Because the DS is total Innovashun and has zero ports/continoued franchises, mirite

Posted by: Enexodia Forbiddensia Oct 5 2007, 11:28 AM

Oh Gosh, I wish, I REALLY wish everyone (including roswell @_@) has their own character art and character sprites :x

It would be so cool!!

Posted by: Suzu Fujibayashi Oct 5 2007, 02:25 PM

They might get their own unique ones now, rather then re-colored versions of the basic ones if it's fitting for their character design. I'd like to see a full body of Rosary as well... I've been assuming she wears a full-length skirt like Yggdra.

Anyone else think it'd be better if Yggdra kept her magical wardrobe change in battle? I mean... It must be hell fighting in that dress in a battle since the skirt is so long and all.

EDIT:
@Chaos:
Well... The DS has far less ports then the PSP. As far as I know most of the games on the PSP are ports of PS2 game, and now, GBA games.

It has a significantly high amount of ports, as well as the fact that nearly every popular game for it is simply a continued franchise. Just because most of the PsP's games are not that well known doesn't mean it has no originals.

Posted by: WhiteKnight Oct 5 2007, 06:08 PM

my opinion on the matter:
Too soon... TOO SOON!
It's that episode of south park all over again...

Posted by: P.P.A. Oct 5 2007, 08:15 PM

Next, Sting will remake a game before it's even out!

A continued franchise isn't a port... And really? None are coming all that much to mind for ports on the DS off the top of my head... Maybe not a DIRECT port, more like a slightly editted port to take advantage of the touch screen (i.e. Animal Crossing)

The PSP on the other hand any ports on it are going to be direct ports with minor tweaking (Graphics, new features, etc.)

That girl with the scythe looks cool. Hope she's playable, in a way. o:

Those are still ports.

Phoenix Wright? Final Fantasies? Dragon Quest?

Exactly the same thing as adapting the touch screen.

Continued franchises that are basically similar with some "minor tweaking" can be considered on the same level as this. Which the DS has a shitload of.

OBJECTION! Animal Crossing is a completely new game. Another spawn of the franchise, but not a remake.

Also, Super Mario 64 DS.

Posted by: Chaos Seraph Oct 6 2007, 02:38 PM

I wasn't saying that it wasn't. I meant his example of more like a slightly editted port to take advantage of the touch screen was a port basically.

Posted by: Suzu Fujibayashi Oct 6 2007, 02:58 PM

Who is a 'his' here? <.< *cough*
Wait. Phoenix Wright is a port? I thought that was something original or something... But at least I can think of DS original/exclusive things... I can't think of any for the PSP.

Well. Any good ones for the PSP anyway. Although it does seem like Sony has had the popular idea of: "Hey... That one game for Nintendo sold really well on their GBA. Let's get the rights to it, and sell it as our own I bet THEN people will want a PSP!"

Which I guess is a way of knowing the PSP sorely needs games since I don't know many people who buy it for gaming... They buy it to watch movies and listen to music.

Posted by: Sauce XIV Oct 6 2007, 06:09 PM

Yeah, Pheonix Wright, as far as any American is entirely concerned, is an original. I don't remember there being any Dragon Quests on the DS, and so far the only FF port the DS has had was FF3, which was originally released in Japan like fifteen years ago. Even then, FF3 has little any use for the Touch Screen either.

You sure like killing your own arguments, Asaph.

Like I said in the other thread, the PSP does have good original games out for it: Jeanne D'Arc, Brave Story New Traveler, Metal Gear Acid 1+2, Portable Ops, Loco Roco, Lumines, Wipeout, Ratchet & Clank, Ace Combat, and Killzone.

And Sony doesn't choose which game is going to be remade, the developer of the original company decides that on their own and I think the remake has to have a certain amount of new content in it, for it to be published in the US...not really sure about this.

And SE is planning to release DQIV and FFIV remakes on the DS...

Posted by: Suzu Fujibayashi Oct 6 2007, 06:56 PM

Yeaaah... All those you listed I've never heard of... Except a few. And Killzone was a PS2 game, so it's not a 'real' original, same with Ratchet. Loco Roco is weird though...
*coughs*

BUTONTHETOPICOFYGGDRAUNIONNOW.

Wonder if they'll add any CGs... I know I'd like to see Rosary without any clothes, eheheheheheheh.
With Yggdra.

Oh god. Right, so they don't count as original games because of a franchise. You can write off anything thats ever been done with the same name on the DS then. Good fucking game.

Again, ignorance to them doesn't mean they don't exist.

Posted by: Rzul Oct 6 2007, 07:45 PM

Wow.

I knew this was coming.

They have been porting all the best SRPGs plus Riviera to better graphical systems for the past 2 years. So this doesn't come as a surprise. I kind of hoped it would have an isometric view for the maps with actual polygons though. Like they do for SRW...

Hope they dub and release it stateside, which will likely happen.

Also, can you fucking imagine the battlecries and shit being said before and duing battle? That would be fucking awesome. And th cutscenes look okay too.

Scythe girl... doesn't stand enough to look like a playable character. Everyone in YUGBA has awsome traveling clothes on. She doesn't.

Posted by: Suzu Fujibayashi Oct 6 2007, 07:49 PM

... Yggdra's dress is awesome traveling clothes?
I liked her old sprite better... I don't see how she can fight in that full-length skirt like that.

Let me rephrase... or rather change all together.

Every playable character in YUGBA wears outrageous clothing that could never work in reality. Even on the game, it would be hard, due to snags, loose clothing, and gigantic belts and masks.

ScytheChick wears clothing that looks average, even for anime.

Posted by: Suzu Fujibayashi Oct 6 2007, 10:03 PM

Ah yes, that makes much more sense. Everyone knows game characters have to fight in odd and totally unbattleworthy clothing... Style > Useability

Highly unlikely. Looking at the scans, you can see a sprite of Durant and Emilia, and they still only have a colour change. At least Gulcasa is recognisable with those funky horns on his helmet.

New screenshots:

http://www.famitsu.com/game/coming/1210966_1407.html

Posted by: Suzu Fujibayashi Oct 7 2007, 08:20 PM

Look like the same screenshots in higher resolution... Half character body art for talking now I see... And Scythe Girl is a Guest (?) unit. I forget the YU term for the green units so I'll say Guest...

Am I the only one who finds the 'crisper' field sprites to look a little... Funny? And something seems missing from Luciana's art... Her arm just looks funny there looking like it's gripping thin air.

EDIT:
Google Translation of the second article.
''The story of the [yugudora] union' is formed with the many scenario which makes 1 maps 1 stages. In PSP edition new stage joins, furthermore also the new character is added. It is [wake] that can enjoy the story, more deeply.'

So seems the Scythe Girl is a new character along with the old guy.

And the third article:
"Approximately, also the fact that it can enjoy the new opening movie which reaches to also 3 minutes is charm only of PSP edition. As for supervision and picture continuity, '[perusona] the Takatsu happiness middle husband person who obtains the appraisal whose is high with movie production of 3' and 'the baroque' has taken charge."

Posted by: Sauce XIV Oct 7 2007, 08:23 PM

That last article is saying something along the lines of that it's being directed by the guy who directed Persona 3 and Baroque.

Posted by: Suzu Fujibayashi Oct 7 2007, 08:24 PM

Well... Yeah. I can make that out even with the fail levels of Google Translator.
EDIT2:
I don't think the old guy is a character, I just noticed the Guest unit sprite is a Witch...

Posted by: Sauce XIV Oct 7 2007, 08:25 PM

I figure the whole "[perusona] the Takatsu happiness middle husband person who obtains the appraisal whose is high with movie production of 3" would have tripped up a lot of people.

Posted by: Suzu Fujibayashi Oct 7 2007, 08:52 PM

I suppose. But I'm used to making the fail-level translations make sense... Takes some rewording here and there.

Hahaha Sting! StInG...sTInG..StiNG! After Riviera, Yggdra? Geez...PSP is soo expensive! I can make a computer out of the money that was used to buy PSP, with Dual Core inside! But, if Singapore prices for PSP is about 300 dolars, then maybe we can get it for 600 dolars. SHIT THOSE SHOP OWNERS FOR SELLING IT FOR 1000 ABOVE!!! Better eat a haddock or cod fish in front of monitor.....

Ah, I have no comment about this, because it is a style for game makers/developers to ported their best games into PSP so THEY CAN GET MORE PROFIT (MONEY,POUNDS,DOLLARS,RUBELS,YENS,EUROS) FROM US. I wonder why Sony didn't insert dual core processor into PSP, THEN I would think of buying it...My current PC if turned into PSP, can get around 6 PSP'S running.

Anyhow, my prayers will not be answered so, I just sit back here and see what are you guys talking about UNTIL I get the simoleons sucker PSP....

And, since you've also linked to the video... screencapping while using Windows Media Player is CTRL+I, right? (Because BLOODY HELL. MUST MAKE ICONZ.)

Get off it. Simple as that, learn to get your own internet.

Posted by: WhiteKnight Oct 13 2007, 01:14 AM

I am afraid I must sympathize with Feral:SHE CANNOT AFFORD INTERNET ACCESS FROM HER OWN HOME. Not her fault that money is tight, or so I heard from what she had directly stated some time long ago. A Schoolteacher has to be one of THE most underpaid jobs EVER.

Posted by: Sauce XIV Oct 13 2007, 01:53 AM

Feral isn't a school teacher. What the hell, White.

Posted by: aerozero Oct 13 2007, 03:40 AM

hahaa, I think White got Feral mixed with Ash somehow. Don't ask me how.

Posted by: WhiteKnight Oct 13 2007, 04:49 AM

Of course Feral isn't a schoolteacher. She is far too young and does not have the proper decoration to become one. IIRC, somewhere in the past she stated her MOTHER was a schoolteacher.

And yes, they are underpaid.

Posted by: Sauce XIV Oct 13 2007, 04:50 AM

IIRC = What?

And proper decoration? So what, she's a house room now?

Posted by: WhiteKnight Oct 13 2007, 04:57 AM

Decoration, as in degrees, diplomas and the like. They are nothing but receipts of accomplishment to me. Too bad someone else doesn't think so. >_>

IIRC is if I recall correctly. When I pull out that term, I usually know what I'm doing, rather than jumping slapdash into an arguement with nothing but baseless conjecture to back me up.

Posted by: Sauce XIV Oct 13 2007, 05:05 AM

Except, it is a baseless conjecture at the moment. Prove what you're recalling is truth.

Posted by: Chaos Seraph Oct 13 2007, 05:22 PM

Feral's old enough to get a job.

Posted by: WhiteKnight Oct 13 2007, 05:47 PM

Wether or not she is willing to get a job isn't my concern, it is hers.

And who knows what hapened to her father.

If she isn't willing to get it, its hardly her place to whine about not having it.

Can we stop debating my parents and get back to YUPSP? The opening movie is bloody amazing, because there is Gulcasa and Roswell and Nessiah. And LOTS of other people.

Well, it's at least not as bad in terms of spoilers as the Blue Dragon trailer was... oh, and don't get me started on the huuuge spoilers in the DEMO of Blue Dragon.

The reason I don't like the opening is because the art quality seems kind of low and doesn't match YU very well.

Very little about the roles of any other characters are disclosed. It's nice, though, that almost the entire cast appears in the opening (if only for a few seconds, like for Cruz and Mizer); that way it's easier to make graphics of everyone. Plus, that means there's much less of a chance of people's favorite characters being left out of getting animated all pretty.

And as for the two characters Suzu continually mentions, they are never onscreen at the same time, so the major spoiler regarding them is never revealed.

[edit] OOH AND. May I ask where everyone's been hearing all the other characters' voice actors? I've heard lots of people whining about Kylier and Nessiah's, but as far as I know the only place on the site with voice clips are the character bios/videos. *confused headtilt* Which... only really shows Yggdra (so kewwwt), Milanor (HE... HE SOUNDS LIKE A 14-YEAR-OLD... O_o;;), Durant, Aegina, and Gulcasa (yummy yum yum~), and a couple of random extras.

Posted by: Rhiannon Oct 15 2007, 08:53 PM

There are a lot of videos scattered in the other parts of the site. Try the Information and System sections.

Speaking of that video, anyone notice the only character shown in it without any new pretty art was Emilia? They just used her original art from the GBA version, maybe a bit cleaner/brighter but she didn't get a full body like everyone else.

Posted by: Megafreak Oct 16 2007, 06:22 AM

Oh yeah, regarding Suzu's comment, I noticed that too. Maybe they were too lazy or somethin' to find a good picture?

[edit--went and looked]

Kylier's seiyuu will definitely take some getting used to. Milanor's bothers me a lot more, though. I guess my biggest issue with them, though, is that they sound so much younger than their official ages.

I still want to know who Nessiah's voice actor is. If Sting is able to get talent like Nonaka Ai (Serene, Nietzsche) then maybe I'm not just hearing things when I think he sounds like Ishida Akira...

The demo is out on the interwebs, impressions and pretty pictures will follow when I'm done downloading it...unless someone gets to it first.

edit:

I dunno how far the demo goes, but I'm sure that it ends when you finish the 1st tutorial chapter/level. The graphics are very nice, I'll definitely pick this up if Atlus ever releases it here.

Shoot, I've downloaded the YU demo for PSP and shitcake! My PSP version was the latest one (Damn for buying one late) and thus cannot be (Bleeeppp.....you know what it means) PANDORA!!!

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It can't even play a demo on a MS? Shoot, It was not even a full game nor piracy, just moved off from a
free, giveaway UMD'S.....
How sucks, 100% sucks.....

DAMN SONY, I WASTED A LOT OF MONEY JUST TO BUY A BRICK? (FUNCTIONAL) NOW WHAT, I CAN'T EVEN PLAY YU'S DEMO? THERE ARE NO SITES OUT THERE THAT ARE WILLING TO GIVE A SPECIAL YU(DEMO).PBP FILE RATHER THAN (SAME STUFF).ISO FILE. IT'S D.E.M.O!!!

Okay, I know that I'm now over the speed limit, but....it's not fair.............damn, even this stuff was restricted by Sony.

(Sleeps down with an angry expression, it's been late already at sand's local time, it's 2.30 AM!)

Posted by: Yuka Dec 21 2007, 12:34 AM

Please go away. Your rantings are not humorous nor enlightening.

Posted by: sandpenguin Dec 21 2007, 03:34 AM

(Already back into normal)
I have the links to the demo, it's rapidshare but you need a 'special' PSP to play it.....oh yeah, only version 3.71 or higher can play it.

I can see that there's one movie sequence in the game file....and like what Aerozero said, will just let us play the first level (or more, probably one more level?) based on the size of the file (210 MB)...

But still, it was crap for my PSP....

Do you all think that this game will be localized for US? I don't want to buy the japanese one....(although I know what they're talking about, referring to the GBA version) Usually, how many months that it will take for Atlus USA that they will localize this game after the release of the japanese one? I don't want to wait more! I'll have a big NATIONAL examination on the second half of the next year!

There are some people that said Atlus WON'T localize the game because of the LAME popularity given to RiviPSP....it's all about money, you know....shame for them to give a crap.

About the songs....do you think that they will use the ones used on the YU Perfect Collection Audio PLUS disc? The instrumental one, not the GBA, mono one....If yes, it will be a GREAT budget saving tool for Sting, again.

I hope that they will give us crackers, not cream slice....or we will slice them into our castlemade PIE.

Hopefully, they won't let us down again.....please check all of my doubts up there and tell it here for somebody that have that 'special' type PSP and play the demo...

Can I post the links here? Although it was piracy, but still it was ripped from a demo UMD, not the full game....rather than torrents....

Posted by: Rhiannon Dec 21 2007, 03:45 AM

I'm pretty sure Atlus will localize it, just because they're best friends with Sting, and we already know from the samples and videos on the official site that it's not using the GBA versions for songs.

Really, though, must you blame Sony for wanting to stop people from downloading games without paying? You should be yelling at Sting for making the demo only available to people in Japan. Stupid Sting Station.

Posted by: sandpenguin Dec 21 2007, 03:58 AM

So how about the links, should I post it here? It's just demo, and there are some password that I will tell after you say it can.

Yeah, Sting doesn't care about us at all, it would be simple if they place a downloadable demo from their website rather than wasting their money on expensive UMD'S, FREE!

Posted by: Yuka Dec 21 2007, 04:23 AM

It's technically illegal, so don't do it.

Posted by: aerozero Dec 21 2007, 04:26 AM

Wow, you must have really wanted to play that demo huh?

Posted by: sandpenguin Dec 21 2007, 04:30 AM

Yeah, once I get my hands at PSP, (Which I get) I will do anything to play the demo, nor legal or illegal. But for sure, I'll buy the original full version of the UMD IF they manage to import some to Malaysia before the next second half of the next year. Or else it would be BYE-BYE for me and YU.

Posted by: sandpenguin Dec 21 2007, 09:57 AM

Sorry for double posting, but I have a crack on the demo (without PSP)

Mistel and Bly have been added on the site, but Bly's class information and age are missing. Too much of a spoiler, or what? They seem to be involved with the old Royal Army (maybe the Karona division...) but I can't read enough of it to really tell.

Someone more fluent in Japanese than me wanna take a crack?

Posted by: Yuka Dec 31 2007, 07:55 PM

Bly is the new wry. And what the fuck we're calling him Fry, because even the Japanese thought it was Fry. What the fuck Sting, how does Fry equal Bly?

Posted by: Feral Phoenix Dec 31 2007, 08:58 PM

Apparently there was some kind of typo on the screencap we all had with his name on it, where the "bu" looked like/was written as "fu".

So, we have Fry Bly.

...I wonder what the deal is with his class though; according to his sprites he does participate in battle...

Posted by: Yuka Dec 31 2007, 11:25 PM

Who cares, he's Fry. If everyone in the god damn world thinks it's Fry, it's Fry. Screw Sting.

Posted by: Feral Phoenix Jan 13 2008, 09:14 PM

...I still note that all the Japanese fans--and everyone but you and Sturm--seem to be accepting the name correction, but... whatever. It doesn't matter.

Nessiah is up on the official site! And according to them, he's nineteen. And while this does make me happy because it proves me right about my guess at his age, the implications both sadden and disturb me.

Joachim is up too. As is the countdown. I don't know if we care as much about them, though.

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

And yes, Nessiah is incredibly mature compared to Rosary. Though, Rosary is sadly immature for her age. I suppose we can chalk it up to Nessiah having a lot more life experience than Rosary, and Rosary seeming very childish because of her rivalry with Roswell and her more selfish attitude.

Posted by: tcaudilllg Jan 14 2008, 06:27 PM

Rosary's an ESFj type. Young ESFjs women tend to be kinda... well, pigheaded, especially if they've been spoiled, as Rosary obviously has as the head of a dynasty. (that, and she's not the compromising type, either)

Posted by: Feral Phoenix Jan 14 2008, 06:29 PM

...ESFj?

I think we can still point out the fact that Roswell is in a similar position and has none of Rosary's overbearing self-interest, but... whatever. They're very different people, after all.

Posted by: tcaudilllg Jan 15 2008, 03:59 AM

Psychology lingo for a person who sees problems in people's attitude as their primary way of living; they try to compensate for this by fixing whatever seems to be bothering them. (Rosary's way of fixing Roswell was by cleaning his clock.) "Helper"-type people.

Offhand, I'd like to note that Yggdra's ISFp (mediator) type is much more apparent in this artist's work than in the previous' artist's.
